Oh What A Treasure!

This is a 'Must listen to/read' from Margaret George. Having just finished another of her fine novels 'The Biography of Henry VIII' I just could not imagine a second novel being as good. I am so happy to say that I was wrong.

Although Ms. George's volumes are categorized as 'novels' as a historian I can assure you that they are 99% accurate as far as I can see. Well I was not there although my daughter thinks that I was!

Treat yourself to this treasure. I am British and am well submerged in the history of Scottish heartbreak. You will not be disappointed.

Brings to life a crazy history of Europe

What did you like about this audiobook?

I particularly liked the accents used, and the pacing.

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

This is a difficult history for me to stay interested in, all the political marriages, and names of one noble after another. This audiobook helps me wrap my mind around the story, and throughout a big part of listening to this I looked up the proper nouns in google images to better visualize this geography.

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

yes, the pronunciation, especially for Scottish and French words, was very valuable.

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

Nothing

Do you have any additional comments?

Great read, definitely have a hard copy so you can spell the words you want to look up correctly.

Loved

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Had to put it down multiple times at the end because I just didn't want it to end the way it does. However, you can't argue with history.

Love all her books! And this narrator is PERFECT!

I love how Margaret George shows the humanity in each person she writes about. After reading/listening to one of her books, I feel I know the person- not just the portrait of history.

Nice mix of fact and fiction

I enjoy a well told story, and a good historical novel should be just that.

a long journey but worth the trip

While it took me a very long time to get through this, full of stops and starts, I think that's the nature of a long and historically rigorous audiobook. At times you may want something lighter and so this gets put down. but that didn't detract from my enjoyment. very well researched and written!
