Belfast, 1939, and Martha’s daughters are beginning to make their way in the world. Irene, the eldest, is on the lookout for a new job and romance. Pat is sensitive and thoughtful, and dreams of life beyond the Ulster Linen Works. Peggy, hot-headed and glamorous, loves her job in Mr Goldstein's music shop on Royal Avenue.
Sheila, the youngest, wants to stay on at school, but her family desperately needs another wage. Although they lead very different lives, they share a passion for singing and join a troupe of entertainers. Can Martha keep her family safe, even when the bombs begin to fall?

Not in three words!Loved that there is FINALLY an Audible version on Alrene Hughes' books,Especially the beginning of "Martha's Girls" trilogy! Please make the rest available on Audible as soon as possible, along with more of her other books!
If you love WWII historical romance from the British Homefront perspective such as Ellie Dean, Annie Groves, and Anne Bennett's novels, these books are for you!
I would love for Audible to make more of Anne Bennett's books as well as Pam Weaver, and other WWII Homefront books available.I'm an "Anglophile" American who wasn't even born until after WWII, but I am so impressed at the way England and the U.K. bravely battled through their own war time horrors with the hombings and everyday rationing and making do! Heroically compelling!
