Was it justice... or revenge? What drove a simple farmer to set out on an impossible quest after a gang of bloodthirsty killers that raped and murdered his wife and slit his small son's throat? Their trail led him halfway across the country and deep into Mexico. One by one he tracked them down and brought them to justice, sometimes at the end of a short rope, more often in front of his fast guns, and he didn't care which.

I enjoy counter-terrorism, westerns, historical fiction, detective mysteries, and old school comedy like "A Christmas Story".
Narration is excellent. Story is filled with action that makes you cheer for the good guy. Protagonist is a hybrid of "Lancelot"(fights for the innocent and defenseless), "Clint Eastwood"(in his trilogy of spaghetti westerns..kills the brutal with fast passionless efficiency). He is lawman, judge and jury against those who brutalized his wife and son. But even more, along his quest for sweet revenge and justice, he saves countless lives he encounters who are innocent and defenseless against the brutal. I had so many"feel good" moments throughout this book as he punished the evil and saved the good. I recommend highly.
Say something about yourself!
really like and could listen to it over and over. great story of a mans quest to avenge his murdered family. you got to hear it
I am an avid eclectic reader.
Gene Engene brings a western to life, he is the best narrator of westerns.. This is an old fashion western, therefore, it is easy to tell good from evil. The story is a saga of a man's life. Matt Henry's wife and child are killed by an outlaw gang and he sit's off after them. He makes friends with lawmen along the way and crosses into Mexico after the outlaws. His life also takes a happy turn he goes on a cattle drive to Kansas from Texas and also marries the daughter of his first employer. Has nice discussion about long horn, short horn, and hereford cattle. I like Dusty Rhodes books as he has no foul language and no sex scenes. I enjoy a western as a break from other types of book, it makes a relaxing read.
Quite a saga.
I like all of Mr Engene's reads from Casca to this title.
A great story with a strong character. At times a little corny but most of the story was great. The corny parts were balanced by the unvarnished brutality of the outlaw gangs and Indians. This was actually like three novels in one and a great value for one credit.
This western started out as standard fare, so much so that I almost stopped listening after the first hour...and yet, something still hooked me into the listen. The narrator, Gene Engene, makes a western come alive! Although this is not Louis L'Amour (not even close), I will still listen to another from Dusty Rhodes, but only if it is narrated by Gene Engene.
Yes. This book draws you in and makes you feel like your living the story.
The book is very easy to follow and has great characters. Everything and everyone ties together to make it full of excitement and keeps you wanting more!
Yes, very hard to stop listening!!
I hope there is going to be a sequel!
I will and have, this is one of my favorite all time audiobooks and have let so many others know about it.
Just about everything, it's a story that you just can't stop in the middle of it will bring tears of joy to you all through out this book.
Matt Henry of course but you can't help but love most of them.
Easy to follow
The rest of Dusty Rhodes books, Plus John Jakes
You are asking too many questions ,, I just like this author
Keep up the good workj
I don't ask for a lot from this genre of fiction, but there was just too much in the way of implausible plot, and particularly inaccurate gun lore, in this one, and I just could not make it through the whole book. Also, I have already read one of the author's other books that contains the same plot in the last half of the book. I don't know which of the books was published first but the author just wholesale lifted a big chunk of the story from one and pasted it into the other. Once you have read all L'amour's works, its hard to find good books in this genre, and Mr. Rhodes does better than some I have read, but I still find his books to be "hit or miss."
