Maddie Chester is determined to leave her hometown of Gansett Island, a place that has brought her only bad memories and ugly rumors. Then she’s knocked off her bike on the way to her housekeeping job at McCarthy’s Resort Hotel by Gansett’s "favorite son", Mac McCarthy. He’s back in town to help his father with preparations to sell the family resort and has no intention of staying long. When Mac accidentally sends Maddie flying over the handlebars, badly injuring her, he moves in to nurse her back to health and help care for her young son. He soon realizes his plans for a hit-and-run visit to the island are in serious jeopardy, and he just may be "maid" for love.

"With the McCarthy's of Gansett Island, Marie Force makes you believe in the power of true love and happily ever after. Over and over again." (Carly Phillips, NY Times best-selling author of the Serendipity series.)
Curled up with a good book in my corner of the world on Sweet Grass Farm, it doesn't get any better than that!
I loved the Fatal series by Marie Force which was why I tried the first in this series. It truly sounds like it could be a production of an earlier work because it lacks the depth, polish, character development and interesting dialog I was expecting from all the books in the Fatal series. I will never purchase another book narrated by Holly Fielding. I barely stayed awake through this one!
I will probably try the I-Team series by Pamela Clare. I listened to the sample and it sounded interesting and the narrator sounded good.
This narrator nearly put me to sleep. The love scenes were boring due to her monotone delivery. I mean, if a guy isn't any more excited than Holly Fielding made Mac sound, I would have asked him to leave and done my nails instead.
It was predictable, but sweet.
I absolutely loved this book it was funny, sweet, and romantic. I would recommend reading it and I hope audible comes out with the rest of the series on audio book. The narrator was very good And I wouldn't mind listening to her again.
The story is light and easy with engaging characters and lots of emotional and sensual content. Not only can you not help but like Mac and Maddie, the book introduces a number of other characters that appear as main characters in other books in the series. Too bad the narration is so bad it sometimes compromises the the personality of the characters and detracts from the overall listening experience.
I enjoyed this. It was so romantic and such a fantasy relationship it was entertaining. I'm glad I didn't listen to the previous review that didn't like it. It's an easy listen and a happy love story.
No, I do not listen or read a story more than one time.
I loved Mac. Although a little unrealistic...basically too good to be true...however I am reading a romance novel. Found it hard to find an ending spot each night...wanted to squeeze in just a little more!
no, this was my first time with this author. Although other reviews were not very kind to her narration, I enjoyed her performance. She kept my attention!
Maddy was great...her story of who she was before meeting Mac was very realistic..I found myself quietly rooting for her!
Finished this book in 2 days and immediately downloaded next book in the series!
Overall... 4 star
Performance.... 4.5 star
Story... 4 star
This is a series that has been on my reading radar FOREVER, so when it came time to pick out another audio, it came to mind. I'm so happy that I chose to listen to this audiobook. These aren't really long books, so on audio, they last about 6 hours. That's PERFECT for me because I don't get a whole lot of audiobook time.
This was a good one. I thought the romance was really sweet and the narrator did an amazing job with the inflections and voices. Maddie has been burned both by men and the McCarthy family. It was a great conflict for the book set-up as Mac quickly falls for her, but she is REALLY reluctant to get involved with him.
I liked how Mac was all in and she wasn't. I really like that set-up for books, and thought it was especially effective in this book because Mac is the rich, hunky "catch", whereas most people really look down on her on the island. I thought Maddie was a great character. She's been so incredibly wronged, you just can't help falling in love with her and the strength she exhibits. She's extremely proud and independent and strong and you have to admire her gumption in the face of everything she's gone through. I liked her and I loved Mac that he immediately saw that everything the island says about her is so wrong. He SEES her and knows that she's so much more. It's almost an insta-love for him which rarely works for me as a reader, but I'll admit, it definitely worked for me in this book.
I'll admit when the book started, I loved Mac, but I know that Marie Force has written a whole series about the McCarthy family and was immediately worried about the rest of the series....because early on, the McCarthy's DO NOT make a good impression. Seriously, mom is NOT a nice person. *ugh* I really, really, really disliked her. But as the book moved along, I discovered more and I'm sold. I can't wait to read/listen to the whole series.
She sounds like an amateur. Absolutely horrible. She stumbles over her words and is very monotone. If I didn't love the author so much I'd stop listening. Contemplating on just buying the book and reading it instead.
Marie Force is a fantastic author and I love her books. This is a great series that continues where the last book left off and still includes the previous characters. I love that. You just have to put up with the awful reader.
Avid reader for 45 years
Since I recently enjoyed another series by Marie Force, I thought I would try the McCarthy Island books, starting with Maid for Love. It had promise but soon felt more like middle school than an adult drama. I didn't believe that Maddie (28 or 29), who was bullied as a teen & got a bad reputation, would stay on a small island where she felt like an outcast for 10 years after high school. I kept wanting her to tell people to go pound sand and grow a backbone. The island residents seemed unrealistic and under-developed but the New England setting was interesting.
The first book in the series was simply okay. I went on to the second which is much better. I hate to talk bad about the reader but I honestly believe I would have enjoyed the book more if the narrator had been better. I love romance novels and this one is definitely worth listening to. Just wish someone like Thereze Plumber had been the reader.
I love literature but I also love to read trash.
While this is a good read, the character development and the attention to detail isn't as good as that found in Marie's Treading Water series. Much has been said about this narrator. Her style certainly takes some getting used to but it does allow the listener to make their own emotional decisions rather than depending on a narrator to do it for them. The recording does sound quite amateur with lots of background noise and very obvious edit points. Audible should make reference to whether the book has been self-published or professionally published. They should do the same with the recording quality.
