Publisher's summary

Dorothea Benton Frank is a native of the South whose novels vividly capture the wild beauty, laid-back atmosphere, earthy characters, and charming eccentricities of life in South Carolina's Lowcountry. Written with compelling honesty and emotional depth, her stories have touched readers from coast to coast, and propelled her to the top ranks of bestsellerdom nationwide.

Now this remarkable writer revisits some of her most unforgettable characters in this enchanting new story sure to make you laugh and cry. Return with her to Tall Pines Plantation in this long-awaited sequel to her beloved bestseller Plantation. . . .

When Caroline Wimbley Levine returned to Tall Pines Plantation, she never expected to make peace with long-buried truths about herself and her family. The Queen of Tall Pines, her late mother, was a force of nature, but now she is gone, leaving Caroline and the rest of the family uncertain of who will take her place.

In the lush South Carolina countryside, old hurts, betrayals, and dark secrets will surface, and a new generation will rise along the banks of the mighty Edisto River.

Wonderfully evocative, infused with humor and poignancy, and rich with the lyrical cadences of the South, Lowcountry Summer is vintage Dorothea Benton Frank, a deeply moving novel you'll want to savor and share.

Not my favorite, but still a good listen

I love Dorothea Benton Frank, every book I listen to or read is a pleasure and I would recommend this book to anyone, but I didn't enjoy it as much as some of the others. Her characters are vivid, but I don't think there were enough enjoyable characters to balance the ones you want to throttle. Even the protagonist was a bit full of herself, and the wrap up made me feel a bit uneasy. That being said, however, the book was well written and worth a try for anyone who loves this genre.

Perfect Summer Listen

A book you will have trouble putting down. As a displaced low country resident, this is like a lovely trip home. The accent is perfect; the geography perfect. You will feel joy, sorrow and laughter. A book worth a another listen!!

Wonderful

This is another great listen from Frank. I couldn't wait to listen to the audio each day as I drove my commute. Robin Miles as Narrator was excellent. I highly recommend this audio.

Disappointing

What would have made Lowcountry Summer better?

The characters needed to be more human and less stereotypical. This book needed more humor and less self righteousness. I didn't care what happened to these characters and stopped listening early on.

Would you ever listen to anything by Dorothea Benton Frank again?

Maybe.

What three words best describe Robin Miles’s performance?

So so.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Apathy.

Cris Council

Robin Miles cannot do southern. Being from the South, her fake accent really grated.

Great Summer Read

Mrs Franks books always make my summer better>
The lowcountry of S.C. is always one of my favorite vacation spots and even though I didn't get to visit there this year just hearing about it through her words and discriptions made me feel better.

A Midwesterner loving stories of the Lowcountry

I have thoroughly enjoyed all of Dorothea Benton Frank’s books in the Lowcountry Tales book Series. The stories and the development of the characters are remarkable. The narrator, Robin Miles, personifies each character’s life and details, as I would imagine. I am only through part of the series and look forward to the next novel. I love listening to Audible, especially while in the car.

Disappointing twist of events.

I can't help but wonder why the author went in the direction that she did to kill off Rusty and gave Tripp stay with his crazy estranged wife.

Doesn't disappoint

The performance is excellent and as always the story is a charming tale of the southern way things are: both genteel and real.
