"Wonderful listen and read beautifully"
I simply love this story and Jilly Bond is an excellent reader, with lots of different "voices". The story is unusual and amusing and the writer creates beautiful pictures in the head, her descriptions are so good. I wonder what other books she has written.
Like a book, I could not put my Ipod down as I just wanted to listen to the next chapter. Very well narrated. It was my first time listening to this author.I have since purchased two more from the same author.
"Lovely lighthearted, easy listen."
I really enjoyed love on the Rocks, some of it a little predictable, but a few twists and turns. Very easy to listen to well narrated, and found myself looking forward to the next instalment. Worth a listen.
"Good story but let itself down in places"
I like Veronica Henry's books, they are light but fun, always with a good mix of reasonably believable characters. This is no exception, and actually has more twists and turns than usual. Several different strands interweaving into the main story, some of them - like the effect of Joe's death on his mother - really well done. The ending is signalled fairly clearly a few chapters beforehand but that doesn't really detract from it and Jilly Bond reads it well. So far, so good.
What let it down for me were the graphic sex descriptions that suddenly appear without reason or warning and were a bit disconcerting when driving! Books come in all different types; in some graphic descriptions are part and parcel of the oeuvre and I've no problem with that. But in this one, they are plonked in awkwardly almost as if some Agent has said to her "good writing, but spice the next one up to increase sales will you?" Veronica, don't take any notice of the marketing people next time. Your books are fine as they are.
"Pleasant distraction I guess"
Less 'getting it on' descriptions!
Maybe but not for a while This is my second after getting deal of the day 'the long weekend' by this author - which was a gentle distraction that needed little attention and I enjoyed. This one though was just more of the same really but with lots of sex scenes which isn't really my thing.
Generally an annoying, irritating voice as well as some very strange characterisations. 17 year old Mimi sounded 10. Late 20s Victoria sounded about 70. Whenever she was 'on' I couldn't help but picture someone like Dorian out of birds of a feather, which was pretty distracting.
To make sure the next books I get have a bit of depth to them.
It's okay for a basic chick lit novel that needs little attention. The descriptions are often lovely and take you there, to the beach, in the hotel etc. and that is what I do like about this author.
Not really very interesting more a diversion and amusing
well read and definitely creates characters
a soap really but good fun
