As a behavioral scientist, Professor Nicole Hathaway's work strips away the foolish mystique that surrounds the human mating dance. When her academic tome is treated as a viral "love manual" her ecstatic publisher books her to appear all over the U.S. and Europe. Worse yet, her quiet, managed life has been shattered by a series of incompetent assistants. And she's certain this Lily Smith creature isn't going to be any less a burden than the last assistant they sent her. Or the one before that. Or before that...
Lillian Linden-Smith needs this job. With a relentless TV lawyer and public mob still out for her blood for crimes committed by her "American royalty" parents, getting out of the country is her only hope for anonymity. If that means cleaning up and presenting an antisocial know-it-all PhD for bookstores, clubs and lectures, fine. Dr. Hathaway may have succeeded in driving away all the others, but not this time.
From their first meeting the sparks fly, and each is thinking: She has no idea who she's dealing with.
It's hate at first sight in this love adventure from the author of Above Temptation, Roller Coaster and dozens of other best-selling, award-winning novels.

It's one I won't forget. I've listened to several books, and about half of them I couldn't finish. This one kept me interested and made me really look forward to my drive to/from work.
The narrator is fine and the story is good. It's not super complex and there isn't any other major plot line going on aside from the relationship between the main characters. Which I was totally fine with! One of the characters is an academic, so there were moments where the book taught me something interesting.
All I can think of is Snow Falling by Gerri Hill, but that's mostly because of the subject matter. This one developed the characters better and the writing was smarter.
The voices were well differentiated. And she was able to do a good job with the various accents and languages. And for the most part it didn't sound like she was straining to do them. I've listened to a book before where the narrator was trying to do a butch voice and it was agonizing.
There were times where the narrator was a little too into it and would laugh whimsically through some of the text (that wasn't dialogue). Someone above compared it to reading a book to a child, which it did have that sound to it here and there. Not unbearable, though. And the voices were consistent.
I laughed occasionally. There are some clever quips. There are parts of the story that made me yell at my iPod (mostly good reasons, but I won't spoil it).
This story has a LOT of buildup between the characters. If you're looking for hot and heavy action right off the bat, don't listen, But if you enjoy extensive development and seemingly unending/unconsumated sexual tension like I do, this will be a good read for you. It's a fun listen.
They travel a lot in the book, so it's a fun escape to listen to the description of the places they go.
The one thing that drove me nuts is there's a part where they get lost driving in Russia and that part of the story goes on way too long. It's about 6 hours in. You'll see.
Its good for what it is, a romance without pretending to be something else. It has no silly story that annoys you by being slapped over the main topic.
Having the characters working together on tour.
not really, It was bit like telling a story to small kids. Too sweet.
Please don't do it, it's sweet story, but it would be boring as a movie.
Yes, because it was different.
The happy ending? was it a happy ending? you'll have to hear it!! lol
Different voices for the characters, and very soft!
Yes, and I did!
Please keep these books for woman coming. We are out numbered 10 to 1!
Addicted to books, but especially to audiobooks!
Probably within the next few months. Likable characters, romantic story line and not too many cliches..
Probably 96 hours by Georgia Beers, the author has a similar style of writing likable characters that are not perfect but are decent human beings looking for love.
No I have not, but I am sure to look for other titles narrated by her. She's was wonderful to listen to.
The travelling adventures of two amazing girls that fall in love in the process!
This book is a wonderful romantic escape, give it a try!
Yes, It's perfect for me to be able to sit back and visualize what's going on than to have to read the information.
I love the characters and their relationship.
I loved them all.
Loved the way the book was performed but the last line was cut off, the recording ended at the start of the last line
It was like listening to a kindergarten teacher read lesfic. Such a shame that a pretty good story would be so ruined by this giggly narration. I may try another kallmaker book with a different narrator if they produce one.
it just seem like forever to get to the point of them coming together. i almost gave up but the ending was strong and pulled it together.
The story and writing were okay. I have been enjoying Karin's books for many years. Unfortunately the wrong person narrated this book. Kathleen's cartoon voice, so not sexy, really spoiled this book for me.
Slow to start but gains momentum Kathleen is fantastic and brings it all together. the story of an uptight academic meeting a world savvy woman. as they try to work together promoting the academic's book on the science of love. However there is another side to our uptight academic thst she keeps under wraps. The two women go on a book tour and both find whst they are looking for. Great book.
"Could be four stars but some probs"
I don't like scoring low the hard work someone puts into a novel, but in this case there are some areas of improvement which would have made the story a 4stars. I have to say I am not sure this is the authors fault I my mind the editor and the person reviewing the audio could have helped her to make it a four story. First to say I like the story, it could be a perfect easy listing romance. The idea of a romance developing between two woman as the travel Europe and Russia to promote a book is a nice one. The characters in the novel are loveable and believable. The problem areas, are some jarring issues around - the accents used in the narrator for some of the people in the story, Any one reviewing this audio before release could have suggested not using them, I know someone else commented on them in a review in audible, but for the English (well welsh) they really are a odd dick van dick, voice coming from a welsh butch lesbian, kinda odd. The dialogue for this the UK uses words like "mate" or "love" and really no one in the UK says that anymore for the characters in the book. Is should not be a big deal but it loses a bit of credibility to the story. I think a bit more research or bit of watching of UK media might have helped here. To me the narrator is actually good, I like her voice, and the emotion she puts into it, the problem is just a few of the accents, and in some cases there is over emotional import for basic descriptions of surroundings, so maybe a bit more balance here. The author was good, but I think there is a bit to much description of basic "life" stuff, which could have been removed, because if it they a descriptive passages of just basic activities we all do,then we don't need really the detail. A few I found hard like "the rain danced on the road", kinda odd description of the rain, an editor could have commented on (I guess). In the end the romance is okay, and I do like all the little events in the story, its pleasant and friendly. But if its a light romance story, then really its missing the key event, when the famous three words are said, this is not a clear event in the story, but moves quickly to the next stage of marriage, So I guess I am saying if its to be a pleasant romance then it needed more the "I love you" part of story and how this plays out. A couple of other minor things, the author creates characters the characters "libedo" and (don't remember) and use them as inter thoughts, like, libedo says lets just do it", thats okay its an interesting device, but then its over used. This over use of devices was case with a few things in the novel, such as the when Professor Nicole, constantly resorts to medical terms to describe emotions, it great a few times, and we understand the need to clearly define the Professor is having hard time relating to her own emotions, but its over used as device in the love. So why do I write such a long review, because I like the narratior and I like the author, and I like the story. It just did not come togather well enough to allow for four stars and Im hoping a view points or even indirect thougths may help the author, because I want to hear and read more from Kathleen Roche-Zujko, Karin Kallmaker, but maybe with more help from editors and reviews.
As an English woman I was disgusted with the accent.was she trying to do dick van dyke in Mary Poppins. Please don't do an English accent again. I was looking forward to this book but I feel the narrator really let the book down
"bloody hell!!!! extremely"
yes i would, i absolutely loved the romance. the chemistry between the two women.
i would say the encounter between Lilly, the tv host and Nicole. When they over ran the tv lawyer with science.
This is her only book on the website. This is the first book im listening to by her and i liked it
Yes i would have listened to the book in one sitting if i had the time. I was dying to know what Nicole would do when she found out that Lilly was gay.
I would really like to listen to more of Karin Kallmaker books.
"No surprises here."
There really weren't any surprises here, after all there can only be so many ways a romance story can be written. That said, the characters were set in a slightly different field to most, and having the one getting away from the sins of her parents did add somewhat to what could have otherwise been a bland tale. Overall, an enjoyable listen, and certainly something I could listen to again.
