Publisher's summary

From the author of the New York Times bestseller Garden Spells comes a beautiful, haunting story of old loves and new, and the power of the connections that bind us forever…

The first time Eby Pim saw Lost Lake, it was on a picture postcard. Just an old photo and a few words on a small square of heavy stock, but when she saw it, she knew she was seeing her future.

That was half a lifetime ago. Now Lost Lake is about to slip into Eby’s past. Her husband, George, is long passed. Most of her demanding extended family are gone. All that’s left is a once-charming collection of lakeside cabins succumbing to the southern Georgia heat and damp, and an assortment of faithful misfits drawn back to Lost Lake year after year by their own unspoken dreams and desires.

It’s a lot, but it’s not enough to keep Eby from calling this her final summer at the lake, and relinquishing Lost Lake to a developer with cash in hand. Until one last chance at family knocks on her door.

Lost Lake is where Kate Pheris spent her last best summer at the age of twelve, before she learned of loneliness and heartbreak and loss. Now she’s all too familiar with those things, but she knows about hope, too, thanks to her resilient daughter, Devin, and her own willingness to start moving forward. Perhaps at Lost Lake her little girl can cling to her own childhood for just a little longer...and maybe Kate herself can rediscover something that slipped through her fingers so long ago.

One after another, people find their way to Lost Lake, looking for something that they weren’t sure they needed in the first place: love, closure, a second chance, peace, a mystery solved, a heart mended. Can they find what they need before it’s too late?

At once atmospheric and enchanting, Lost Lake shows Sarah Addison Allen at her finest, illuminating the secret longings and the everyday magic that wait to be discovered in the unlikeliest of places.

Pretty Good Story

Alot of characters and sometimes it was hard to keep track of everyone. Once I did, I enjoyed the story. Devan was my favorite character.

A Sweet Escape

The book could have used a little better editing, but I found myself completely caught up in the story. It was easy to let go on a cold winter Sunday and just escape.

Janet Metzger's narration was lovely, and her voice was soothing.

A little pixie dust

A feel good story, great narration and the perfect amount of whimsy. I would read more from this author in the future.

5 star story but only a 4 for me

This was tough to rate. The story was such a sweet story and the narration was great. If only I didn't have recent 5 stars to compare in my mind, this would have been a 5. I have owned this audible for nearly 2 years and I wish I hadn't waited so long to enjoy it!!!

Magic realism in its finest

Over and over, Sarah Addison Allen amazes me with her characters, plots, relationship development and magic. I adore everything she writes and while this starts feeling a bit different, it is utterly charming.

Sacrifice is a wonderful gift

Well I am in a Sarah Allen trance and on a roll to read all of her books. This is another feel good, fun read about healing and family. Sometimes your family does not have to be bonded by blood but instead deep love, trust and loyalty. The relationships in this book are old and ongoing. It was a bit predictable but getting there was well worth it.

Again great characters that are so real that I would like to know them. Its unusual and refreshing how Sarah A. Allen switches up her narrators, each are outstanding. Janet Metzger did a wonderful job and her voices were good, I was relieved that her child voice was not too whiny. Another wonderful step into a marvelously magic story.
