Publisher's summary

The year is 878, and the Saxons of Wessex, under King Alfred, have defeated the Danes to keep their kingdom free. Uhtred, the dispossessed son of a Northumbrian lord, helped Alfred win that victory, but now he is disgusted by Alfred's lack of generosity. Uhtred flees Wessex, going north to search for his stepsister in the formidable stronghold of Dunholm.

Uhtred arrives in the north to discover rebellion, chaos, and fear. His only ally is Hild, a West Saxon nun fleeing her calling, and his best hope is his sword. Needing other allies, he chooses Guthred, a seemingly deluded slave who believes he is a king. Together they cross the Pennines to where a desperate alliance of fanatical Christians and beleaguered Danes form a new army to confront the terrible Viking lords who rule Northumbria. Instead of victory, Uhtred finds betrayal. But he also discovers love and redemption as he is forced to turn once again to his reluctant ally, Alfred the Great.

A breathtaking adventure, Lords of the North is also the story of the creation of modern England, as the English and Danes gradually become one people, adopting each other's languages and fighting side by side.

Ready for battle? Don't miss the rest of the Saxon Chronicles Series, including The Last Kingdom (Book 1), The Pale Horseman (Book 2), and Sword Song (Book 4).

not as good as before

the other books were similar to red badge of courage and all is quiet on the Western front giving a face to history. this one is more fiction and goes deep on the characters instead of events.

Awesome, thank you.

I have no complaints. Usually I hate a switch in narrators in a series. Yet here the narrator did a phenomenal job, just as good as the last. Unique in his own younger, more arrogant style, but still representing Uhtred's personality. It was an awesome story, and I really enjoy them Thank you.

I already have the next 2 installments

What three words best describe Tom Sellwood’s performance?

OK, not great

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Wait for the sequel

Any additional comments?

This was a disappointment after the first two installments -- both in story line and narration.

What happened to Jonathan Keeble?!

I’m not even halfway through Lords of the North and I don’t know if I can finish it, let alone the rest of the series, without Jonathan Keeble narrating.

Good book, bad narrator

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I did not like the narrator, he was awful! Jonathan Keeble is much better and should have narrated all the books in the series.

What didn’t you like about Tom Sellwood’s performance?

This narrator, just didn't capture the hero like Keeble

Excellent continuation of Uhtred's journey through the dark ages...

Show is great. Books are superior.

Well crafted tale of excitement, war, and heroics. The narrator is so good at drawing the listener into the story.

Wrong performer

Great story, one of my favorite books and series ever written. I’ve read the stories multiple times. But the reader was the wrong guy. It was almost humorous.
Through out the book, he got better, but the accents used was just almost clown like.

Sorry buddy, but maybe English, danish and Irish accents aren’t your thing.
