If you love the Outlander Series...

I started the John Grey series waiting for the next Outlander book. I find this series equally entertaining, this book being my favorite yet. I hope Diana has plans for more.

Two shining stars=listening heaven

Ok, first: Diana Gabaldon is a master- with language, with emotion, with mystery and with intrigue. She can paint a world with words so rich you would swear you were right there.
Second: Jeff Woodman is easily one of my favorite narrators. Accents are wonderfully done, character voices are subtle but distinguishable, cadence is varied and always appropriate.
Put them together and it is a must-listen!

I love Lord John

This is my favorite of the Lord John stories. I've listened to them all and this one several times. Every time I pick up something new and am reminded what a master storyteller Gabaldon is. There is mystery, romance, exquisite historical details, and a great exploration of what it means to act with honor. This story is highly entertaining too!

The narrator is simply fabulous. It's hard to imagine one person getting all these voices right. Yet his characterization is spot on.

wonderful story!

The stories of Lord John Gray, while not a part of the main Outlander series, fill out the character, and let one see what is referenced in the main series in recollection. Thank you for writing them!

A bit confusing

Overall good but somewhat disappointing with better moments here and there. A bit confusing to me towards the end. Sorry but I hated the Neanderthal impression of Jamie… I know we are used to his voice in the primary books out the Outlander series but he is a main character. I would have wished for a better imitation on that one.

Lord John

A nice tie up of the loose ends of Lord John. The narration was well done.

Excellent writing, rich in period detail

I felt transported to the 18th century. The hero is a marvellous and complex creation

Mostly about sex

There are some fully-fleshed (pun?) story line; however, almost all of it involved Lord John’s gay lover, among others, and the problems with that relationship. Some scenes are quite explicit involving gay sex. A minor side story deals with finding his father’s murderer and some irritation with his “militree” posting. Jamie Fraser makes some brief appearances.
