Publisher's summary

In the wild, when a wolf knows its time is over, when it knows it is of no more use to its pack, it may sometimes choose to slip away. Dying apart from its family, it stays proud and true to its nature. Humans aren’t so lucky. Luke Warren has spent his life researching wolves. He has written about them, studied their habits intensively, and even lived with them for extended periods of time. In many ways, Luke understands wolf dynamics better than those of his own family. His wife, Georgie, has left him, finally giving up on their lonely marriage. His son, Edward, twenty-four, fled six years ago, leaving behind a shattered relationship with his father. Edward understands that some things cannot be fixed, though memories of his domineering father still inflict pain. Then comes a frantic phone call: Luke has been gravely injured in a car accident with Edward’s younger sister, Cara. Suddenly everything changes: Edward must return home to face the father he walked out on at age eighteen. He and Cara have to decide their father’s fate together. Though there’s no easy answer, questions abound: What secrets have Edward and his sister kept from each other? What hidden motives inform their need to let their father die . . . or to try to keep him alive? What would Luke himself want? How can any family member make such a decision in the face of guilt, pain, or both? And most importantly, to what extent have they all forgotten what a wolf never forgets: that each member of a pack needs the others, and that sometimes survival means sacrifice?

More than you EVER want to know about wolves

In typical Jodi P style, story pulls together well and characters are equally interesting. I have always been a JP fan, but this storyline was not for me. It was very enjoyable from beginning to end, but you must have some patience in the middle portion, it can be a bit too much wolf info. Having lived on a cattle ranch, you can guess why.

Excellent

Would you listen to Lone Wolf again? Why?

If Jodi Picoult wrote it I'll read it. Her books always contain an ethical / moral issue with no clear right and wrong in the story. Plus in this one you'll learn how wonderful and fascintating wolves are.

Enjoyed it suprisingly!!!!

What did you love best about Lone Wolf?

I enjoyed learning about Luke's character and what drove his love of wolves.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Lone Wolf?

Can't say without spoiling the book but there were a few shockers.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Luke's enthuasim as he talked about the wolves.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, but I enjoyed reading it.

Any additional comments?

I read this book as a book club selection. I was not excited to read it after reading the reviews (which were all over the place). Once I got into the book, I really enjoyed the family dynamics and couldn't wait to learn the outcome of the book. Luke was a piece of work!!!!

Another hit for Picoult!

If you could sum up Lone Wolf in three words, what would they be?

Another story by Picoult that explores the ethical and moral issues
families face when faced with a traumatic brain injury and brain death in a loved one.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I think Edward was my favorite character because he made some wrong decisions but in the end he matured and fought to make the right decision for the right reason.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

All the various narrators were excellent!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The whole book was moving but the stories about the wolf pack and wolf behavior were fascinating.

Very moving

A family falls apart and later re-emerges in a new version in part due to the father's obsession with wolves.

The relations between the characters is completely believable as are the characters, but the wolves add so much to the story. Wolves have always fascinated and these are brought to life by the author and play a major roll in the story.

Powerful

Working in hospice this book shows the struggles families really go through everyday when making decisions for their loved ones. I loved the way Jodi wove the behaviors of the wolf into the story. As a note - no matter your age, have your advanced directives and talk with your family. I definitely recommend this book.

It was good

I’ve read or listened to great and this was good. The readers did an amazing job. I felt the story was missing something... like there were some hints at possible twists and each one was just ehh... however i loved learning about wolves!

Lone wolf

I loved this book. Jodi Picoult at her best. The intelligence of the animals very believable and the struggle of the brother and sister were also believable.
