Publisher's summary

In the wild, when a wolf knows its time is over, when it knows it is of no more use to its pack, it may sometimes choose to slip away. Dying apart from its family, it stays proud and true to its nature. Humans aren’t so lucky. Luke Warren has spent his life researching wolves. He has written about them, studied their habits intensively, and even lived with them for extended periods of time. In many ways, Luke understands wolf dynamics better than those of his own family. His wife, Georgie, has left him, finally giving up on their lonely marriage. His son, Edward, twenty-four, fled six years ago, leaving behind a shattered relationship with his father. Edward understands that some things cannot be fixed, though memories of his domineering father still inflict pain. Then comes a frantic phone call: Luke has been gravely injured in a car accident with Edward’s younger sister, Cara. Suddenly everything changes: Edward must return home to face the father he walked out on at age eighteen. He and Cara have to decide their father’s fate together. Though there’s no easy answer, questions abound: What secrets have Edward and his sister kept from each other? What hidden motives inform their need to let their father die . . . or to try to keep him alive? What would Luke himself want? How can any family member make such a decision in the face of guilt, pain, or both? And most importantly, to what extent have they all forgotten what a wolf never forgets: that each member of a pack needs the others, and that sometimes survival means sacrifice?

Wolves Ruined it for me!

I am now and always will be a fan of Jodi Picoult's. I have read almost all her books. Jodi definitely uses a formula. There is usually a moral dilemma, a trial and a lesson to learn. Even if I can predict the outcome, I always gain something from her books. Lone Wolf didn't let me down that way.

However, this was not one of my favorites. I resented all the "education" about wolves. I don't care about wolves and I don't want to read or hear about them. I appreciated what she was doing, but I wanted to fast forward through the wolf lessons. Please stick to people, Jodi!

Better than her last book

I used to love Jodi's work but in the past few years I feel she has sacrIficed quallity for quantity. This book was interesting since I learned quite a bit about wolf packs. The moral dilemma and court case was typical of her books but at least this one had an original twist. After her last terrible book I had vowed to boycott her but in a weak moment I purchased this one. I was not disappointed - it wasn't her best but it did keep my interest.

Okay but not great

There were some good story moments in this book, but I never really connected with the characters. It was a little too unbelievable to the point it distracted from the story. I am still a big Jodi Picoult fan, but this one is at the bottom of my list.

Aren't we all Lone Wolves?

Two young adult siblings struggle with end of life decisions for their father. Normal family trauma. Normal legal battles. Some unusual characters.

Typical Jodi Picoult

Would you consider the audio edition of Lone Wolf to be better than the print version?

I like Jodi Picoult's books because they have multiple readers. It helps me to remember who is who etc. I hate reading print books so yes I think it was much better than the print book!

What other book might you compare Lone Wolf to and why?

Don't get me wrong I'm a huge fan of Jodi Picoult but as all of her fans know her books are pretty predictable -- there is a "ethical problem" then a "family struggle" then someone sneaks off and gets an attorney then there is the trail and then in the end it is neatly wrapped up leaving the reader with a new view of the ethical problem........

So yes you can compare it to every other book she has written :) BUT it is a good book and VERY well researched as usual.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?

Different voices for different charactors are great .

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. I needed breaks

Any additional comments?

no

Are wolves and humans really that different?!

If you could sum up Lone Wolf in three words, what would they be?

Interesting, thought-provoking and real.

Any additional comments?

Highly recommend this book. Kept my attention and I learned a few things about wolves and how human behavior, with all our emotions and miscommunications, can send us down a path we never imagined.

unexpectedly captivating......it was well worth it

i enjoyed "House Rules" very much, so much that i also have the hard back edition for times away from tech. i was unsure when i saw th synopsis for this book,a far different direction. I was delightfully shocked to be taken just as deep, in this new perspective! Picoult is quickly becoming a favorite of this humble listner/reader.

First time reader of Picoult

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Not about the narrative it was very good and very interesting

What didn’t you like about the narrators’s performance?

The readers were not actors, they were an ensemble of readers. Very disappointing. I'm not crazy about multiple readers... I like one actor doing all the parts, but here these readers just read, they do not perform.

Could you see Lone Wolf being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

yes
