Publisher's summary

Four very different women navigate one of life's most wonderful and perilous transitions: the journey of new motherhood.

Rebecca Rothstein Rabinowitz is a plump, sexy chef who has a wonderful husband, a restaurant that's received citywide acclaim, a beautiful baby girl and the mother-in-law from hell. Kelly Day's life looks picture-perfect. But behind the doors, she's struggling to balance work, motherhood and marriage, while dealing with an unemployed husband who seems content to channel-surf for eight hours a day. Ayinde Towne's already on shaky ground, when her basketball superstar husband breaks her trust at the most vulnerable moment in her life, putting their marriage in peril -- and thrusting their new family further into the public eye. Then there's Lia Frederick, a Philadelphia native who has left Los Angeles behind, along with her glamorous Hollywood career, her husband, and a tragic secret.

With her trademark warmth and humor, Weiner tells the story of what happens after happily ever after.

A typical Jennifer Weiner story

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, even if they haven't read any other books by Jennifer Weiner. I really like when stories are about more than 1 person and in this case they all end up being friends.

Find GoCharacters, Plot, Current Issues

I like the way that Weiner writes her interwoven story lines. The basics is that there are four women in four very different situations, who are all dealing with the same general issues. It is refreshing to read about people who reach out and across the gulf of socio-economic status, desires, paths taken and difficulties to really become true friends, people who are THERE for each other however huge or relatively small the issues that they are dealing with. Here are women who could be jealous and bitter, but instead they reach out and are kind, loving and more sisters than the "blood" sister secondary characters introduced so that we could see how profound these four who meet fairly randomly.
Having had twins and a singleton, I know about postpartum depression, the need for support, the exhaustion, the incredible experience of pregnancy, delivery and the first year. and also miscarrage... I had to get through all of this it by myself. it was good to read about women who could really help each other through the transformation that these women had to traverse in order to be of help in the best ways possible. The arc of character development was the thrust of the plot and I like character driven stories very much. If you do, you will enjoy this great read.

Excellent

I think every type of mother would like this book. You will know at least one of these motherly personalities in a woman in your own life. From the stay at home mom, to the overwhelming mother in law. Written beautifully and the narrator is perfection! What a great listen!

Describes the joys and challenges of new motherhood for working mom’s perfectly!

I identified so strongly with all 4 women. My own journey into motherhood 20 years ago was much like this as I was also a wife and teacher. “I didn’t think it would be so hard”, is a quote from one of the characters that ring true for me too, especially after the birth of my second child 4 years later, and the late miscarriage I suffered at 26 weeks 18 months after that. Thank you Jennifer Weiner for capturing the struggles and joys of new motherhood so well.
