The Power of the P!

I enjoyed this story because it outlines the journey of a young lady who recognizes her situation and transforms her trauma into a profitable venture for herself. *Haters won't understand.* (If you got it, make it work for you) At some point in the story it became a bit implausable that this is the mind of a 16-year-old making these crafty decisions though.

I have great empathy for the plight of the black woman. They can become the most resourceful and resilient people on the planet. Think about it:In the slavery days a black woman *had* to make love to the "Massah", raise the "Massah's son and give herself to him if he desired her, go back to the "quarters" and make love to her very bitter "beau" -AND on top of that- keep her sanity while raising the children and keeping the house. Admit it! Black women are amazing! Once they recognize their situation and they learn how to turn their curses into triumph.

However, the conclusion could have been better for me in my opinion. I wanted Johnnie to make an explosive exit at the end. Not a quiet dribble.

Poor Porn

We too finished listening to this book and kept asking ourselves why! The premise for the book sounded promising but in fact it was very poorly written and the ending was as if the writer just got tired of writing and quit...which was fine with us. Every now and then you get a stinker and this was one of those.

DON'T DO IT!

I was so ticked while listening this. Since I bought it, I went ahead and finished listening to it but I couldn't wait for this mess to be over. The author put no research into writing this book at all. The setting was supposed to be New Orleans in the 50's or 60's when values were different. It was as if he was writing about an incident that happened in 2007. He used so much modern day slang and any and every opportunity to talk graphically about sex. Just boring and although fictional, completely unbelievable.

Little Black Girl Lost

Awful. Really the entire book amounted to graphic child pornography. I would like to delete it from my audible library. I have deleted it from ITunes library and my ipod.

I do love historical fiction

What made the experience of listening to Little Black Girl Lost the most enjoyable?

I think that the world that was created was the best part of Little Black Girl lost. The author did an excellent job transporting me to the 1950s New Orleans setting.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Little Black Girl Lost?

The most memorable moment was Johnny's mother sold her virginity. It was just really hard to hear due to it being so detailed but it was needed to really understand what Johnny lost and how she lost it.

A great Listen

This book had me laughing, close to tears at some parts and in others my mouth was hanging open so much my coworkers started given me weird looks. I couln't put it down so I finished it by the end of the work day. This book is a work of fiction which I believe gave the author more room to weave this fascinating story, I loved it and can't wait to listen to the next book. If you're a person who can't handle graphic adult situations then you need to skip this hench the open mouth part of my day LOL!

Great

This was a great book to listen to. I could not put it down. I have listened to quite a few books now, and this is one of my favorites. It was very entertaining and exciting. I loved this book and would strongly recommend it to anyone who wants to be entertained. Most books, you can figure out the ending before it ends, but this book left you hanging.

I should have gotten the abridged version...

2.5* I'll start by saying that I was really looking forward to this book, and I understand that this is fiction.. but still. On the one hand, I liked the (main) story; young girl forced into 'whoredom' refuses to settle on just being a victim. Ok, cool, great, I love it. What I didn't like was the often unnecessary (and very recurring) graphic sex. I get that men like sex, but this book just made it seem like the guys in the book were simple-minded, horny lumps of flesh. Every man that she came in contact with immediately wanted her, even when they knew nothing about her. It's as if the girl walked around with a magic sticker on her forehead that said "Don't even attempt to know or care about me", and only the guys could see it. What ever happened to character development and back story? Not to mention that some of the events in the story were way too far-fetched. I sometimes found myself rewinding & repeating to see if I had accidentally missed a birthday or something, because this young girl was doing some "grown woman stuff". Lastly, the ending didn't fit the story, and it honestly didn't make me want to pick up the next book in the series. Sorry KLJ, this one didn't do it for me. By the way, when the writer forgets their own character's name, that doesn't add to my enjoyment of the story. (Is it me, or did Robert Simmons in pt. 1 become Richard Simmons in pt. 2?? It could be my mistake).

little porn lost

little porn lost is a more appropriate title for this book, the author seems much more interested in having the reader purchase the follow-up book than anything thing else.
the story itself held my attention, with the ending being an insult to my intelligence, I rated it 4 stars as a mistake, perhaps 2-3 stars would have been more appropriate

If you want porn this is your kind of book

The narrators did a good job for such a x rated book. I think the story could have been good but there was so much explicit sex that much of I had to fast forward through because it bored me or I had to laugh because it was so stupidly explained. It was a waste of what could have been a good story line.
