One of the better narrators that I have listened to.
Truth will out
Although the story was a bit predictable Carole Boyd kept the interest with her excellent portrayal of the difference characters.
It's for the female's romantic loner, who likes old fashioned stories.
It fits the criterea and genre of a certain time frame but could use some more explosive (grab you by the collar and pull you in) interruptions to this 'every day (yawn) life' betrayal.
I thought the narrator did a pretty good job (given the material), the characters are believable and atmosphere transending.
It was dissapointing and I had to force myself back to it several times, just in case it got better and I could justify my 'purchase'.
I was trying for something different in 'excapism' but this genre, or just this book, didn't open up a new area of interest for me.
Just read something else. This makes Barbara Taylor Bradford's books look like candidates for the Booker Prize.
I didn't expect very much from this book except light entertainment - but it's some of the worst drivel I've ever read. Drippingly sentimental yet full of gratuitous violence and unmotivated evil which really adds nothing to the story. Characters are stereotypic in the worst possible way and the writing is really just one cliché after the other.
The narration wasn't bad at all - but it couldn't save this book.
No. The setting and plot (far-fetched as it is) could have made for an interesting story. England during the depression, trials and tribulations of a working class family. Other authors have done a much better job with these elements, though.
I came over this book because it was on a special 4.95 offer at checkout. I thought it might be nice mindless entertainment for the holidays and didn't bother to check reviews here or elsewhere. I only finished it because I was bored and hate giving up on a book.
YES, ITS LOVELY TO LISTEN TO, NICE EASY STORY AND HAPPY. IT IS ALSO VERY INTRIGUING WITH A GOOD TWIST.
Unfortunately I have not been able to download any of my audio books from my computer to my 3G WiFi Kindle. I live in South Africa and I have tried everything possible that has been suggested in the documentation on the Kindle and on the Computer. I can hear the book on my computer that is not a problem but the Computer is not recognizing the Kindle USB. When if I do get it to work maybe I will be able to give a good rating. I do not want to listen to the books on my computer I want to listen to them on my KINDLE. Maybe someone in your customer support can send me explicit instructions on what to do or tell me what the problem might be. I would be ever so greatful. My Kindle is the greatest gift I have ever been given and with the audio facility would be absolute magic. Thanks in anticipation.
