Publisher's summary

Throughout her blockbuster career, number-one New York Times best-selling author Jodi Picoult has seamlessly blended nuanced characters, riveting plots, and rich prose, brilliantly creating stories that "not only provoke the mind but touch the flawed souls in all of us" (The Boston Globe). Now, in her highly anticipated new book, she has delivered her most affecting novel yet - and one unlike anything she's written before.

For more than a decade, Jenna Metcalf has never stopped thinking about her mother, Alice, who mysteriously disappeared in the wake of a tragic accident. Refusing to believe that she would be abandoned as a young child, Jenna searches for her mother regularly online and pores over the pages of Alice's old journals. A scientist who studied grief among elephants, Alice wrote mostly of her research among the animals she loved, yet Jenna hopes the entries will provide a clue to her mother’s whereabouts.

Desperate to find the truth, Jenna enlists two unlikely allies in her quest. The first is Serenity Jones, a psychic who rose to fame finding missing persons - only to later doubt her gifts. The second is Virgil Stanhope, a jaded private detective who originally investigated Alice’s case along with the strange, possibly linked death of one of her colleagues. As the three work together to uncover what happened to Alice, they realize that in asking hard questions, they'll have to face even harder answers.

As Jenna's memories dovetail with the events in her mother's journals, the story races to a mesmerizing finish. A deeply moving, gripping, and intelligent pause-resister, Leaving Time is Jodi Picoult at the height of her powers.

Everything you could want in a book! Wonderful!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Leaving Time?

I loved the detailed descriptions of elephant habitat and behaviors. I could picture it so clearly. I also loved how each story fit together so perfectly. Usually when I read a book or see a movie I am always left with questions like "but what about....." and "what was the reason for....", but this one left me completely satisfied and wow-ed. A wonderfully written book, one of the best ever!

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

I loved all the narrators! They were great!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A story of unconditional love!

Any additional comments?

Jodi Picoult Does It Again!

I don't know how she manages to keep writing books with so many twist and unpredictable turns but she definitely does!

Excellent

I did not want this to end. I listened to this after The Elephant Whisperer the second time.

Another great book by Jodi Picoult

Her usual twist at the end keeps you hanging on every word. I actually went back and re-read the last six chapters to re-live it again!

Compelling story - sleepy narration

I love the plot and surprising directions it took. The combination of characters and their complexity makes the story one you want to follow, and connects you to the people in the story.
The narration was good. Got a little sleepy whenever Alice's voice went long.
I already recommended this to my mom. Anyone who needs to break away from nonfiction would enjoy this, particularly researchers.
