Publisher's summary

Throughout her blockbuster career, number-one New York Times best-selling author Jodi Picoult has seamlessly blended nuanced characters, riveting plots, and rich prose, brilliantly creating stories that "not only provoke the mind but touch the flawed souls in all of us" (The Boston Globe). Now, in her highly anticipated new book, she has delivered her most affecting novel yet - and one unlike anything she's written before.

For more than a decade, Jenna Metcalf has never stopped thinking about her mother, Alice, who mysteriously disappeared in the wake of a tragic accident. Refusing to believe that she would be abandoned as a young child, Jenna searches for her mother regularly online and pores over the pages of Alice's old journals. A scientist who studied grief among elephants, Alice wrote mostly of her research among the animals she loved, yet Jenna hopes the entries will provide a clue to her mother’s whereabouts.

Desperate to find the truth, Jenna enlists two unlikely allies in her quest. The first is Serenity Jones, a psychic who rose to fame finding missing persons - only to later doubt her gifts. The second is Virgil Stanhope, a jaded private detective who originally investigated Alice’s case along with the strange, possibly linked death of one of her colleagues. As the three work together to uncover what happened to Alice, they realize that in asking hard questions, they'll have to face even harder answers.

As Jenna's memories dovetail with the events in her mother's journals, the story races to a mesmerizing finish. A deeply moving, gripping, and intelligent pause-resister, Leaving Time is Jodi Picoult at the height of her powers.

Again 'WOW'

I usually read thriller suspense novels. But I came a across this author from my dad with the story teller. Her writing and the narrator bring her books alive. You can't stop listening. This story line was different and threw me for a loop. You won't be disappointed I promise!

You will cry and you will laugh!

Where does Leaving Time rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was one of my favorite Jodi Picoult books I've listened to. This author always does her research and weaves it into an emotional story of love, family, loss and memories.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Leaving Time?

I especially enjoyed learning about elephant behavior. In a scene where the mother elephant comes to the aid of her dying 13 year old son, I cried as I listened to the elephants grieving process as told in Alice's voice. Beautiful. Moving.

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

The narration and performances were excellent. The detective and the little girl have a style of dialogue that will have you laughing out loud.

Who was the most memorable character of Leaving Time and why?

My favorite character was Alice, the woman who is being searched for by her daughter, a detective and a psychic. Alice reads her research to us in the most engaging style giving us insight to her beloved elephants and what Alice values. The ending will surprise you!

Any additional comments?

Please listen to this book. Listen to the credits at the end so if you feel moved by the plight of the elephants you will learn how you can make a difference.

Good read! Really engrossing

Would you consider the audio edition of Leaving Time to be better than the print version?

The audio version was entertaining and gave life to the individual chracters.

If you could take any character from Leaving Time out to dinner, who would it be and why?

I would take out the betrayed wife. She was too likeable and helpful to the child to have a cheating husband...in a perfect world

Awesome twist

This may be the most engrossing, the best book I’ve read. The characters are solid and the story is heart wrenching in a good way. Also, I am fully supportive of the message in this book. The elephant’s plight is very distressing. These animals are more humane in some ways, and more civilized than humans. We can’t stand by and watch them eliminated from the wild.
