Publisher's summary

The idyll of Blandings Castle is about to be disturbed, for the Hon. Freddie Threepwood is poised to make his debut as a jewel thief. Freddie, however, is not alone: Blandings is simply brimming with criminals and impostors all intent on stealing Aunt Constance's 20,000 pound diamond necklace. It is left to the debonair Psmith, with his usual aplomb, to unscramble the passion, problems, and identities, of one and all.

One of Wodehouse's Best

Any additional comments?

This is P. G. Wodehouse at his best. The writing is witty, the characters are interesting, the plot hopelessly complicated, and imposters abound (as is always the case at Blandings Castle.) Jonathan Cecil is an excellent reader for this and other Wodehouse novels--the voices, the timing, the inflections. Highly recommended.

All things Psmith please

Great performance and one of my favorite books of all time. Everyone needs more Psmith in their lives and this is a pleasant introduction.

Psmith

I listened to this book twice even though the production lacks continuity. The narrator reads pleasingly enough, but sometimes his voice is muffled. It's almost like he read the book in different recording studios with different acoustics, or like the producer turned the volume of his microphone down from time to time. It's annoying the first few times you hear it because you have to turn up the volume and rewind it to catch everything. But the Wodehouse story itself is wonderful. So, I listened to it twice.

Great, but the sound quality could be improved

This is an outstanding PG Wodehouse novel and the narration is mostly superb however sometimes silent pauses between chapters are way too long, and in some odd instances the sound quality deteriorated so much it was very hard to listen.

Charming and hilarious

In my view, this is one of the most charming books by an undeniably charming author. Psmith is a marvelously absurd character, and the farce and romantic comedy elements of the book provide a very solid structure on which to hang Wodehouse's trademark moments of linguistic and character-based humor. Really, you cannot go wrong with this book.

Partially unintelligible audio cassette transfer.

I agree with the other reviewers who noted the poor audio. I look forward to them reissuing the entire Jonathan Cecil series with digital recording that is also correctly synced with the digital chapter markers. I prefer B J Harisson as narrator - Cecil is OK.

audio is poor at times, great story

great story and performance. the audio at times is very poor, some chapters sound underwater which makes it hard to hear while in the car. but other chapters were fine.

Wonderful book, poor narrator

This is a great book and a wonderful introduction to Wodehouse. The narrator, however, is overly dramatic and his voice is so deep that it is, at times, difficult to understand. Frederick Davidson is much better at Wodehouse.
