Publisher's summary

The idyll of Blandings Castle is about to be disturbed, for the Hon. Freddie Threepwood is poised to make his debut as a jewel thief. Freddie, however, is not alone: Blandings is simply brimming with criminals and impostors all intent on stealing Aunt Constance's 20,000 pound diamond necklace. It is left to the debonair Psmith, with his usual aplomb, to unscramble the passion, problems, and identities, of one and all.

.

Excellent story, of course (a given from Wodehouse!), and a wonderful narrator but the audio quality is a little off. Slightly muffled and fuzzy, though still listenable - I just had to listen through my phone which has crisper, sharper tones, rather than a speaker.

Another little Gem by Wodehouse

Many modern comic authors state their admiration of Wodehouse and it is easy to see why. These books are such fun. This book is packed with wild schemes, comically desperate situations, a henpecked husband and a number of monetary troubles that might be solves by the theft of a necklace. The whole tale is told with the typical comic warmth of a Wodehouse story. My only complaint is that the audio quality could be a little better. It seems that no one has bothered to clean up the recording since it was a book on tape (Last one I listened to by the same narrator had left in a direction to turn the tape to side to at one point). So the volume and clarity go in and out from chapter to chapter. However, it is still easily listened to and the narration is quite good.

First Class

Jonathan Cecil is, in my opinion, the best of the many narrators of Wodehouse, and Leave It to Psmith one of the funniest Wodehouse novels, both of which are saying a good deal. This is very highly entertaining and will not disappoint fans of Psmith or Blandings.

My only reservation is that, although this audiobook has been issued on CD and is available for MP3 download elsewhere, Audible's copy is taken from cassettes, and the sound quality is accordingly variable.

Wodehouse at his most enjoyable

Mr. Cecil's vocal repertoire aids the listener's enjoyment of P. G. Wodehouse's characters and a true Wodehouse plot, employing a wonderfully rich vocabulary.

Good, but not the best Widehouse

Being a P.G. Wodehouse fan, I have been reading/listening through the cannon. While this story is humorous, and follows the Wodehouse recipe for a story, it is far from his best.
The technical aspects of this recording are sub-par. From chapter splicing in the wrong areas to editing issues,.

Very amusing & absorbing

Would you listen to Leave it to Psmith again? Why?

I am a budding Wodehouse fan and working my way through the Blanding Castle books. Seeing how these stories have held up over the years I have no doubt they will be just as pleasing when reread.

What did you like best about this story?

I love the stiff-upper lip of the characters combined with a ceaselessly optimistic trust in elegant language-use to sort everything out. Then there is the ever amusing Freddy always up to one scheme or another.
There were plenty of moments that had me giggle out-loud.

What about Jonathan Cecil’s performance did you like?

Jonathan Cecil has a pleasant voice to listen to, is very clear to understand and possesses just the right accents for this kind of story.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Plenty of amusing moments to make one laugh.

Delightfully Charming

With my pinchent for dark thrilliers and multilayered detective series, I was in need of a break, although I didn't want to stray too far from the genre I love. Leave it to Psmith was just what the literary doctor ordered; a bit of whimsy, a lot of British dry humor,a caper in the making with wonderful characters to round it all out. Not sure if it's for every taste, but I don't think I've ever chuckled out loud so many times during my afternoon bike rides. Wonderful respite from worldly stress and the fact that one pretty soon realizes how things HAVE to turn out, it doesn't make getting there any less enjoyable.
