Publisher's summary

Jocelyn Minton is a woman torn between two worlds. Her mother grew up attending private schools and afternoon teas, but she married the local handyman. After her mother died when Joce was only five years old, her father remarried into his own class, and Joce became an outsider - until she met Edilean Harcourt. Although she was sixty years Joce's senior, Miss Edi was a kindred soul who understood her like no one else ever had.

When Miss Edi passes away, she leaves Joce all her worldly possessions, including an eighteenth-century house and a letter with clues to a mystery that began in 1941. In the letter, Miss Edi also mentions that she has found the perfect man for Joce -- a handsome young lawyer. Joce is shocked to learn that the mystery, the house, and the future love of her life are all in Edilean, a small town in Virginia that Miss Edi never told her about. Hurt that the woman who meant so much to her kept so many secrets, Jocelyn moves to this tight-knit village in an attempt to understand the legacy that has been left to her. As she begins to dig into Miss Edi's mystery, she soon discovers some shocking surprises about her family's history and her own future - and she meets a man with his own mysterious past.

should have been book #2.

These books were out of order and unfortunately have different narrator's. The narrator to this book has the same voice for all the characters, I had to back up a lot because I didn't know who was talking. The narrator can't hold a candle to Davina Porter. To bad she didn't read this one. I hope book 3 has some of the same characters, but from the description it doesn't. It has another narrator change, hope she is better. The best part was the ending, a real tear jerker.

sweet, innocent, and perfectly suitable for teens

What made the experience of listening to Lavender Morning the most enjoyable?

The wittiness of the characters was the most enjoyable.

If you’ve listened to books by Jude Deveraux before, how does this one compare?

Slightly boring in comparison. The romance was implied yet non-existent. It was also sometimes difficult distinguishing the change of characters, because they all sounded alike.

What does Barbara McCulloh bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

the quick wit and personalities of the characters.

Any additional comments?

Although Ms Deveraux is one of my favorite authors, this series is not one I would follow. I'd rather the Taggert/Montgomery series.

Lavender Morning

I enjoyed this book. It was a little cheesy, and the dialog is pretty bad in some places, but it was entertaining. I teared up a couple times and I felt uplifted by the end. I’m glad I listened to it.

Story within a Story

Would you listen to Lavender Morning again? Why?

I really enjoyed this book, and frankly, thought the story within the story was better than the main character's story. I did feel that it ended rather apruptly though, and would have like a little more fleshing out of the relationship between the two main characters.

What did you like best about this story?

The story of Edilean and David.

What about Barbara McCulloh’s performance did you like?

She varied her voice well and her voice is easy to listen to. I liked her, but I thought she made the main characters sound just a tad wimpy.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

yes, the end of the story of Edilean and David

Any additional comments?

On to the next chapter of the Edilean story.
