But keeping it alive will require extraordinary measures. Yesterday's world is gone. All Deni and her family have left is each other and their neighbors. Their little community will either stand or fall together. But they're only beginning to realize that, and trust doesn't come easily.
Particularly when one of them is a killer.
Best-selling suspense author Terri Blackstock weaves a masterful what-if novel in which global catastrophe reveals the darkness in human hearts and lights the way to restoration for a self-centered world.

As I listened to this story, I saw a lot of myself in there, and wonder how I would react. It was so carefully crafted to keep me on my toes, and so realistic.as I say in all your reviews, I pray that many, many thousands of people will come into His Kingdom thru your books, as they see how useless life is without Jesus. The narrator spoke beautifully, although the recorded volume was low so I had to listen through earplugs or speakers. But thank you for the book, absolutely brilliant!
I have only been able to listen to about 20 minutes of this audiobook, which is a shame because I think the story might be engrossing. Instead of reading the book, the narrator attempts to act it out, with different voices (with accents seemingly from different parts of the country) for each family member. I prefer to use my imagination to picture what is happening rather than have someone dictate what the characters sound like. If you think a whining teenager is annoying in real life, try listening to a grown man imitate one.
I almost take offense to the southern accent used in this audio book. I'm from Alabama and live 45 minutes from Birmingham. I rolled my eyes when I heard the southern drawl used. Loved the book but think I'd rather read it.
I would listen to the story again if it was read by someone else. This reader's voice was pretty loud naturally, then he would speak softly for a younger girl's voice or when someone is being soft spoke, but this soft spoken person could be talking with another character who has a loud "booming" voice. Give me the need to constantly adjust the volume while I'm listening.
That aside, I enjoyed the way the story is told; through the minds of different characters.
I enjoy not quite knowing what's going to happen next. I enjoy hearing the thought process of different characters.
He did do a great job making his voice sound different from character to character. Just the loudness/range/"booming" voice that he has caused me to have to adjust my volume a lot.
I didn't feel a connection to want to go out to dinner with any of the characters. However, I wouldn't mind spending time with the youngest daughter at an amusement park though!
This book was. Entertaining and suspenseful. It also made me think about the myriad of ways we depend on electricity. Good food for thought. Getting back to basics is a good idea
I bought this book because it was on sale, and I have quite the reputation for taking advantage of a bargain! I didn't know until I started listening that the story was faith based being a Christian I was admittedly excited... We have limitless sources of entertainment, and as we just move on to the next book, the next article, the next TV show... We are in fact entertained but how often do we finish the book article TV show movie ect and rather than just moving on to the next STOP and think, reflect on whatever information we have just been exposed to? I'm not preaching I'm not saying throw everything away that isn't a bible story... Only that there are so many choices and it's good to expose ourselves to things that knock a few cobwebs loose and get the grey matter flowing once in awhile
I really, really liked this book. it definitely made me think. But, the narrator didn't add anything. His fake southern accent and whining women's voice was pretty irritating. Thankfully the story made up for it.
