Publisher's summary

The birth of Jesus has been well chronicled, as have his glorious teachings, acts, and divine sacrifice after his 30th birthday. But no one knows about the early life of the Son of God, the missing years - except Biff, the Messiah's best bud, who has been resurrected to tell the story in this divinely hilarious yet heartfelt work, "reminiscent of Vonnegut and Douglas Adams" ( Philadelphia Inquirer).

Verily, the story Biff has to tell is a miraculous one, filled with remarkable journeys, magic, healings, kung fu, corpse reanimations, demons, and hot babes. Even the considerable wiles and devotion of the Savior's pal may not be enough to divert Joshua from his tragic destiny. But there's no one who loves Josh more (except maybe "Maggie," Mary of Magdalan) and Biff isn't about to let his extraordinary pal suffer and ascend without a fight.

Critic reviews

"Moore...gets style points for his wild imagination as Biff recalls his journey with Jesus...into and out of the clutches of Balthasar, then into a Buddhist monastery in China and finally off to India, where they dabble in the spiritual and erotic aspects of Hinduism. The author gets more serious in his climax, offering a relatively straightforward, heartfelt account of the Passion and Christ's final days that includes an intriguing spin on how the Resurrection might have happened." (Publishers Weekly)
"An instant classic...terrific, funny, and poignant." (Rocky Mountain News)

Awesome!

Such a captivating satire to 'fill-in' the blanks of Jesus' story! Incredibly funny and fantastic narration! Never missed a beat!

Hilarious!

We listened as we traveled and laughter like crazy! Well researched as many stories were drawn from Gospel lore. A real hoot!

Really enjoyed this book.

It was everything . enjoyable, funny and beautifully done. Love Fisher Stevens, his story telling breaths life into the characters. I love the spin Christopher Moore puts on the story of Jesus or Joshua as told by Biff. The book is light hearted and amusing. If you got offended in any way while listening to this book, lighten up. Even God has a sense of humor, at least I would like to think he does.

Hilarious and so well narrated!

Loved this book. Such a fun, profane walk through the New Testament. I'm looking for more titles from this writer.

Narrator was awful

The story was great! The narrator did good with the voices. The one thing that drove me crazy was that the narrator paused in the middle of sentences where there shouldn’t have been pauses.

Divine

Moore’s most consistently funny book, written so well, perhaps the second greatest story ever told. A little blasphemous at times, but it’s essential to the plot. If Life of Brian offended you, this book will too, but you will laugh a lot more.
