Publisher's summary

The birth of Jesus has been well chronicled, as have his glorious teachings, acts, and divine sacrifice after his 30th birthday. But no one knows about the early life of the Son of God, the missing years - except Biff, the Messiah's best bud, who has been resurrected to tell the story in this divinely hilarious yet heartfelt work, "reminiscent of Vonnegut and Douglas Adams" ( Philadelphia Inquirer).

Verily, the story Biff has to tell is a miraculous one, filled with remarkable journeys, magic, healings, kung fu, corpse reanimations, demons, and hot babes. Even the considerable wiles and devotion of the Savior's pal may not be enough to divert Joshua from his tragic destiny. But there's no one who loves Josh more (except maybe "Maggie," Mary of Magdalan) and Biff isn't about to let his extraordinary pal suffer and ascend without a fight.

Critic reviews

"Moore...gets style points for his wild imagination as Biff recalls his journey with Jesus...into and out of the clutches of Balthasar, then into a Buddhist monastery in China and finally off to India, where they dabble in the spiritual and erotic aspects of Hinduism. The author gets more serious in his climax, offering a relatively straightforward, heartfelt account of the Passion and Christ's final days that includes an intriguing spin on how the Resurrection might have happened." (Publishers Weekly)
"An instant classic...terrific, funny, and poignant." (Rocky Mountain News)

Fantastic and fun!

This book is the perfect combination of reality and the mystical told in a fast paced, witty and hilariously funny way! It is an imaginative take on the human soul, life and death. The narration is fantastic too! It is not a suspenseful thriller with shocking surprises so if you’re the type that gets frustrated when the reader knows more than the main characters then this book isn’t for you.
This is my second Samuel Moore book and I’m about to dive into my third!

Everyone needs a Biff!

An entertaining, well written book, funny and yes, irreverent, but also without any overt attacks on faith and told with warmth.

Excellent story with great narrator

Might not want to quote this scripture in church, but an extremely well told satire of the story of Jesus. Filled with humor and unforgettable characters. Everyone should hear the story of Joshua through the eyes of Biff.

Lamb is a Lion

Lamb is possibly the finest piece of comedic fiction ever written. The audio rendition by Fisher Stevens is masterful. Taken together, Lamb will undoubtedly be the crowning gem of your library. And be sure to treat yourself to the soft/hardcover book, which is designed to look and feel like a traditional Bible, a small bit of genius all on its own. Enjoy!

One of my favorites

In full disclosure, Lamb by Christopher Moore is one of my top five favorite books of all time. With that said, I was extremely happy with the audiobook version. Fisher Stevens did a remarkable job in the narration. The story itself is great with a bit of action, romance, sadness, and of course a lot of humor. Chapter 30 is an emotional one for me. I can't recommend both the book and audiobook enough. Get it and thank me later.

An enjoyable romp through the gospels

This is a fun book, light and quirky, that pokes a lot of loving fun at the Jesus story, and attempts to posit where he got some of his powers and put a human face on him. Some may think this sacrilegious but the story is actually pretty reverent to the overall idea of Jesus, if not in its methods. It doesn't take itself very seriously, and is not overly deep (an extended tour of the Orient provides an interesting depth to the idea of Jesus, however), and its humor is exceedingly dry and punny. I was hoping for a Douglas Adams-style satire, but the humor isn't what I'd call laugh-out-loud funny, but more of a "hmm, how clever" funny. Numerous anachronisms abound, but it somehow works. The narrator is quirky and fits the part of Biff very well, though his range is pretty limited. If you don't take your faith too seriously, you should enjoy this book as an alternative view of Jesus, which ultimately ends up in the same place you'd want it to. If you have no faith, like me, you will find much to smirk at in this book, and perhaps a new perspective on the mythology of Jesus as well.

Old story told with a twist, or two.

If you seek biblical accuracy this is not the book for you. If you want to hear stories of the time of Jesus between birth and crucifixion, told in today’s language with a smattering of scripture along the way, then get ready for entertaining and food for thought too.
Characters well developed and narration is great!!
