Publisher's summary

The birth of Jesus has been well chronicled, as have his glorious teachings, acts, and divine sacrifice after his 30th birthday. But no one knows about the early life of the Son of God, the missing years - except Biff, the Messiah's best bud, who has been resurrected to tell the story in this divinely hilarious yet heartfelt work, "reminiscent of Vonnegut and Douglas Adams" ( Philadelphia Inquirer).

Verily, the story Biff has to tell is a miraculous one, filled with remarkable journeys, magic, healings, kung fu, corpse reanimations, demons, and hot babes. Even the considerable wiles and devotion of the Savior's pal may not be enough to divert Joshua from his tragic destiny. But there's no one who loves Josh more (except maybe "Maggie," Mary of Magdalan) and Biff isn't about to let his extraordinary pal suffer and ascend without a fight.

Critic reviews

"Moore...gets style points for his wild imagination as Biff recalls his journey with Jesus...into and out of the clutches of Balthasar, then into a Buddhist monastery in China and finally off to India, where they dabble in the spiritual and erotic aspects of Hinduism. The author gets more serious in his climax, offering a relatively straightforward, heartfelt account of the Passion and Christ's final days that includes an intriguing spin on how the Resurrection might have happened." (Publishers Weekly)
"An instant classic...terrific, funny, and poignant." (Rocky Mountain News)

Biff the missing gospel!!!!

I adore Christopher Moore!!! Honestly he’s my favorite author. Fisher Stevens is the best at not only narrating these literary-masterpieces, but also bringing them to life!!! This book honestly got me more interested in bible stories than I was even as a child in vacation bible school!

well worth it

I am often not a fan of true comedy novels, but Lamb seldom goes too far over the top. It even seems to intersperse real historical research and knowledge and an overall plausible implausibility. Fisher Stevens is the perfect narrator for this story. If you do not mind jokes about sex and religion, give it a try.

Amazing, inspiring, absolutely hilarious

I've always loved Jesus for as long as I can remember but I always had a problem with the books and the teachers who seemed so intent on proving his divinity that they never took the time to realize him as a full human being. This book does a better job of making him real than any I've ever read and it is pure joy to read or to listen to because it is so funny. the author is a genius.

a wonderful imagining of Jesus's life, with humor

Would you consider the audio edition of Lamb to be better than the print version?

not necessarily

What did you like best about this story?

well written, historically accurate (for a farce), and good fun

What does Fisher Stevens bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

excellent narration, but the production is rough in spots (some transitions are too quick)

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

the end

Any additional comments?

I wish Moore would write more of this caliber. I find his vampires vapid.

Best Christopher Moore book

I love everything about this book. From Biff being Joshua's "bad" friend to the massive amounts of research Moore must have had to do to write it. I've listened to this book at least three times. I'm sure I'll listen again!

Historical...and entertaining

If you could sum up Lamb in three words, what would they be?

Funny, different, thought provoking

What does Fisher Stevens bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Great voice inflections and changes for each character.

Any additional comments?

Brought back all the well known stories (gospels) from the Bible...homilies from Mass...and gave the perspective of how they might be said today. Explored the frustration of how the Son of God had to 'wing it' as he discovered and learned what his Father wanted from him during his life on Earth. Entertaining and thought provoking. Loved the book.
