LT's Theory of Pets | [Stephen King]

LT's Theory of Pets

LT has a theory about pets, particularly his Siamese cat. It had been their cat, not just his cat, but that was until he came home one day to find a note on the fridge from his wife saying she had left him. Recorded live at the Royal Festival Hall in London, this story demonstrates yet again that no one can tell a tale like Stephen King. Available only in audio!

    "Wickedly Funny"

I bought this book because I thought it would be just what I needed to fall to sleep to. Not a good idea! The first part of the book was so funny, I had to stiffle my laughter to keep from waking my husband. Pet owners will love it. And in spite of the humor, Stephen King delivers his usual magic by warping the story into weirdness by the end.

"Story Time in London with Stephen King"

LT's Theory of Pets is a great Stephen King non-horror story. As his long time readers know, Stephen King is much more than gore. One of the finest straight American fiction authors of our time reads one of his shorts for an audience in London. This audio is a little pricey, even with audible's great discount, for one story that lasts 55 minutes, but it is a must for all Stephen King fans. The introductory remarks by King to the audience get you laughing right from the start and the story keeps you laughing...for a while.

If you are new to listening to Stephen King, I would suggest trying one of the short story collections from audible before coming back to snap up this little gem.

"Great story for a commute drive."

I listened to this on my way to work and the drive home. Funny as hell, but with a Stephen King sad sack/horror ending. Stephen's characters are so fleshed out that they seem to be real, like your neighbor down the street that you nod and smile hello to, but don't actually know or want to know. In King's world, maybe not knowing is safer!
Note: King warns at the beginning that if you don't like cussing and dirty words, then you'd better not listen to this. This is a live recording of a book reading so it sounds sort of tinny because of the auditorium, I guess. But King is clear as a bell as he reads.

    "Hilarious!"

This book wasn't quite what I thought it would be, but it was a fun and funny book that takes a look at how things seem to be true (at least was with my pets even!) It's a short and sweet story that had me laughing out loud (quite a funny thing seeing as how I only listened to it on my mp3 player -- so spontaneous bursts of laughter were amusing and confusing to everyone else) and was definitely a good buy. I've listened to it a few times all the way through and recommend this book, read by Stephen King himself (who does a wonderful job narrating with his Maine accent)

    "The softer side of King..."

A story that starts hilarious and ends surprisingly sad... A jolting twist that only King could pull off...

I have been an avid reader since childhood and I tend to lean toward the macabre, strange and enjoy things that go bump in the night.

    "He's definitely The King"

I've read almost all of Mr. King's books, starting with Carrie the same year it was published. This is one of his most humorous stories. Light-hearted and filled with insight, I think anyone who has been loved by a cat or a dog would lap this one up. True to King, though . . . If it's not scary, it's usually poignant, and this story was that. Of course, listening to Steve read the tale to a live audience was a pure joy. I don't know who had a better time; King, his audience or me. Just a note: plenty of profanity. Nothing vulgar, but fairly raw. Don't let that stop you this seldom seen side of Stephen King.

    "It's a live recording"

It's king. If you like him you'll like the story. I missed the memo that it's a live recording. I'd rather chuckle on my own than be reminded by the crowd that something was funny. It took away from the story a bit.

    "Overpriced."

Best part: it's read by King. Okay story, but not a thriller by any means. The cover art is more tempting than the story really is.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would absolutely recommend this book to friends.

    Any additional comments?

This is a great story. A little something different from the master, Stephen King. I love that he read it himself and his delivery of it is just hysterical! Love, love love it!

    Story
    "LT's Regret"
Where does LT's Theory of Pets rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I would rank it a few notches below Joyland. So far Joyland has been the most engaging Audiobook I have listened to yet.

What was one of the most memorable moments of LT's Theory of Pets?

The description he gives of the dog vomiting in LT's shoe.

Which character – as performed by Stephen King – was your favorite?

    The narrator telling LT's story.

If you could take any character from LT's Theory of Pets out to dinner, who would it be and why?

The narrator because he isn't hiding anything. LT is a bit in denial and not very forthcoming.

    Any additional comments?

This started off with a bang for me. I like Stephen King's voice as well as his story. The end was a little bit of a let down, but I was thoroughly engaged throughout the entire audio.
