Knit One, Pearl One: A Beach Street Knitting Society Novel, Book 3

It's been a busy few years since Jo Mackenzie lost her husband. Life has brought adventure, surprises, unexpected pleasures, and, of course, lots of knitting. Jo's seaside yarn shop, with a brand new café, has taken off, keeping her busier than ever. And being a single mum to two boys and headstrong toddler Pearl is just as exhausting and enchanting as she thought it would be. On top of all that, celebrity diva Grace has a secret, Jo's firecracker best friend Ellen is launching a new television series, and lovable but hapless Martin continues his oft-misguided attempts to woo Jo.

    "Funny and heartfelt"
What did you love best about Knit One, Pearl One?

I love British humor and this book really delivered.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The story is told first-person by the main character,Jo. She is funny and honest. Her kids drive her crazy but she can't imagine life without them.

What about Jilly Bond’s performance did you like?

The narrator did a fabulous job!

If you could take any character from Knit One, Pearl One out to dinner, who would it be and why?

The books ensemble of characters really work well. They are all well written and make a great read. I want to go to one of the many picnics or parties they are always having and meet them all!

    Any additional comments?

I got this book for the knitting aspect of it. But I loved it because of its warmth and humor.

"Hilarious portrayal of a single mom!"
Would you consider the audio edition of Knit One, Pearl One to be better than the print version?

The British accents add a flavor that I wouldn't have in a written book, yet they are very understandable.

What other book might you compare Knit One, Pearl One to and why?

Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich...humor is dispersed throughout the story, making the characters more real.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

This was one of those books I looked forward to listening to...as soon as I could get back to it.

    Any additional comments?

I wish Audible had more books from this author.

    "BoringZZZZZZZZZ!!!"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Maybe somebody that likes to knitting, although I doubt it very much!

Would you ever listen to anything by Gil McNeil again?

NEVER! There is no real story, a repetition of silly people that come in and out at each turn saying silly things!

What didn’t you like about Jilly Bond’s performance?

It sounds like a very satisfied person and the imitations of the males were horrible. The children voices were OK though

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Knit One, Pearl One?

ALL OF IT! I would never have allowed this book to be printed.

    "Crafty Café"

I had this title in my wish list for a long time as I liked the premise of ‘knitting café’ but I kept putting off buying it or using my credits as other titles by authors I’m more familiar with kept popping up however this book too me by surprise with quirky characters very realistic family scenarios mixed with cake and craft.
Nicely narrated by Jilly Bond who is one of my favourite narrators anyway.
I actually listened to it twice on a loop as liked it so much and really wish there were more
of the same from this author on Audible. This is book (3) so I’m just wondering why
books (1) & (2) are not listed?…Definitely worth a listen so 5 stars for Gil McNeil.

    "A very Gentle book."

The idea of knitted cup cakes and other things is very amusing, gets the imagination going. I enjoyed this book although nothing really happened. Good listen to relax with and not tax the brain!! I love books read by Jilly Bond, she is excellent, and one narrator who pronounces words correctly, she has excellent inflections, I often get books just for her as the reader.
