The seventh instalment in the biggest, funniest, most thrilling comedy-horror-adventure series in the universe…Death Bringer, book 6 in the Skulduggery Pleasant series, was the number-one bestselling children’s book for two weeks running in September 2011, as well as outselling the number one adult fiction hardback.
And guess what? This one is going to be Even Bigger. Hot on the heels of World Book Day, when 250,000 copies of Derek’s one-off novelette will be distributed, everyone will be a Skulduggery fan in 2012 – and EVERYONE will want this book. Books 1-3 were the Faceless Ones trilogy. Books 4-6 were the Necromancer trilogy. Now, get ready for… the Darquesse trilogy. Valkyrie will finally come into her destiny. The end will finally come. And the last part of your minds will be totally and utterly blown…

"This is a writer at the height of his powers and Landy is getting better with every book… Whatever your age, read them and enjoy the ride." (Irish Independent)
"Fast and funny" (The Times)
"A fast evolving plot and a great mix of scariness and humour." (5 star review, Sunday Express)
This books lacks the humour found in the earlier novels and in the last third of the book, there is too much violence and death. The characters are in a constant search for more powerful weapons with which to solve problems. I will continue with the series.
"The new book in the trilogy of trilogies"
Now of course all Skulduggery books should get five stars by default, but I felt that with this outing Derek wanted to cram too many new ideas into one book. It loses a star for being so full of overlapping plot points that by the end I thought I still had a couple of hours to go because I had forgotten what the actual plot of this book was. None the less while not being perfect this is definitely a brilliant set up for the chaos that is going to be the Darquesse trilogy.
Some of the voices weren't how I imagined but some came off well. Good in general and the story was excellent.
"Another outstanding dark adventure"
I can't get enough of these Skulduggery novels, they're the perfect thing to have on when pottering in the garden or stuck in traffic.
The story is a good one though I had a feeling that a little too much material was included in this one, but that's a good complaint to make.
Those who have avidly devoured their way through the previous 6 will enjoy this one immensely. If you haven't I envy you a delicious journey into a fantastic, crazy, action packed world.
"Fantastic, can't wait for the next!"
A fabulous edition to the Skulduggery Pleasant series and probably my favorite so far. If you're familiar with the series you'll know what to expect: Fast paced, edgy and witty. But you're in for a few surprises too...
If you're a newcomer to the series, you might still enjoy it, but the plot relies heavily on familiarity with events in previous books, so I highly recommend starting from the beginning.
This is the first SP book I have on audio book, so I can't compare narration. But Stephen Hogan did an excellent job capturing the character's personalities and emotions (Lenka's voice is adorable!). I certainly wouldn't mind listening to the other audio books.
All in all, anther great book in a great series. The only problem is it'll leave you craving another.
"superb as always, shocking twist in the epilogue"
we always enjoy skullduggery pleasant and this was no exception. I find the violence a bit too much but it doesn't bother my girls at all!
