They had only one thing in common - William Lowell Kane and Abel Rosnovski, one the son of a Boston millionaire, the other a penniless Polish immigrant. Two men born on the same day on opposite sides of the world, their paths were destined to cross in the ruthless struggle to build a fortune.
The marvellous story, spanning 60 years, of two powerful men linked by an all-consuming hatred, brought together by fate to save - and finally destroy - each other.

"Archer has a gift for plot that can only be described as genius." (Daily Telegraph)
Yes. It is easy the listen to...good story, good narrator
None I have listened to so far cause its was in a class of its own
William Kane and young Abel
William Kane. He was smart, rich and kind. Qualities you never see together.
I just loved it. The audio book put the movie to shame. I pray I find another book this good.
this is the best audio book i have ever listened to. Followed very closely by Archers other book A prsioner of birth.
"One of the best I've read"
I would rank it as a tie for number one with Game of thrones!
I can't say there is one memorable moments as this book is so fast paced that it is full with memorable moments!
No, I can't say i have
yes, definitely cry
I would like to have hade the time to listen to this in one SITTING, Mesmerising ☆☆☆☆☆
I have loved this book. It's one of those books that's just a story but makes you think as well. I feel it's worth a read, money well spent. 😊 Happy listening. 😊
Thoroughly enjoyed the contrast of the two lives early in the book. The contrast of one privileged individual and the other fighting tooth and nail just to survive.
At first I didn't think I would get on with the reader but after only a few minutes I was immersed in the story and never gave it a second thought.
This book made me want to achieve more in my own life which I think is an incredible feeling to put over in a story.
Trying to work through the BBC's top 100 books to read, this so far is up there among the top 10% for me. Far better than many other supposed 'classics'.
"An easy to listen to classic"
The plot is well known and full of unlikely coincidences but it rips along so you really don't mind. A very enjoyable listen
another Jeffrey Archer novel which I was unable to put down. A must listen to.
"love this book"
i know it isn't fashionable to like jeffrey archer books but please try them - this was the first book i read when it was published and i bought it recently in audio form to revisit it - i was not disappointed with the audio version and it still makes for a great read/listen
"Great second time around"
It was a great listen really enjoyed the story and would listen again in the future.
The end when they realise all the emotions felt over the years was pointless. (Trying not to give away the storyline)
Very good enjoyed his narration.
I did not laugh or cry but did feel an emotional connection to the characters.
I read this book when it was first published, really pleased I purchased and listened on Audible it was a great experience.
I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book, well read, captured my imagination.... Loved it....
