Publisher's summary

William Lowell Kane and Abel Rosnovski, one the son of a Boston millionaire, the other a penniless polish immigrant-born on the same day near the turn of the century on opposite sides of the world - are brought together by fate and the quest of a dream. Two men - ambitious, powerful, ruthless - are locked in a relentless struggle to build an empire, fueled by their all-consuming hatred. A saga of two flawed, but extraordinary men

I’ve several of Jeffrey Archer’s books and think
this is his best. It’s a multi generational story, skillfully written and beautifully narrated.

Very interesting

I enjoyed the history very much. The ending was a bit dissappointing, but the first 75% of the book was worth it.

Dependably Entertaining

I think I read this book in the 80s but I am not sure. Thankfully I have a lousy memory for these kinds of things so I was not wasting my time reading it again, plus it didn’t seem familiar… still, I can’t shake the feeling this was a re read.

This is the 5th Archer book I’ve read and I really enjoy them, the stories are right up my alley.

It’s impossible to describe the plots in one sentence; they’re sweeping sagas / generational family dramas… I just eat it all up. So easy to get swept up in the frenzy of back stabbing power wars in great families. (Perhaps this is also why I was a huge Dallas & Dynasty fan in the 80s!! Ha!)

I’ll be reading more Archer books for sure, along with Ken Follett and Edward Rutherfurd they are dependably entertaining reads.

Still great!

I read this book many many years ago. Long enough ago that I had forgotten most of the details. I just remembered that I really liked the book. So glad I read it again! No story-teller quite like Jeffrey Archer.

terrific! easy to listen to despite the length.

It had excellent character development. It masterfully wove fiction with true life events. An interesting read.

Predictable but loved it anyway

Such a rich novel. Gives a sense of what it was like to live in another not that distant error. Totally kept my interest. I listen on the way to work and looked forward to the drive. Two main characters and each is very human. One is not the hero. Highly recommend it.

Excellent book

So glad I decided to go with this book. So much suspense and triumph. I am sad it had to end.
