Being one of the guys isn't all it's cracked up to be. So when journalist Chastity O'Neill returns to her hometown, she decides it's time to start working on some of those feminine wiles. Two tiny problems: one - she's five feet and 11 inches of rock-solid girl power; two - she's cursed with four alpha-male older brothers.
While doing a story on local heroes, she meets a hunky doctor, and things start to look up. Now there's only one problem: Trevor Meade, her first love and the one man she's never quite gotten over -although he seems to have gotten over her just fine. Yet the more time she spends with Dr. Perfect, the better Trevor looks. But even with the in-your-face competition, the irresistible Trevor just can't seem to see Chastity as anything more than just one of the guys....

Xe Sands performs this so well. Good male voices and such a lovely, soothing voice.
The story itself is cute and sweet along with enough drama to create a story. A few touching tears. My only real objection is that it's written in the first person which I find tiresome. But overall, worth a listen.
One of the smartest, funniest and perfectly sarcastic books I've ever read. I giving it as a Christmas present to several of my best friends bc I know that it will not disappoint. Also Xe Sands is a genius narrator. Love her timing, sarcasm, male voices, intelligence and wit!!
I loved that the main character's relationship with her family.
I would compare this book to My One and Only, also by Kristin Higgins. I have read most of her books. Both books had strong female characters, not just the heroine. And both of the main characters could laugh at themselves while not falling completely apart when things did not go their way.
She sounds exactly like you think the characters would sound like, including the men. I think she is very talented.
I really like the book. I have to admit I may have shed a couple of tears during two major scenes involving her parents.
Worth the credit
What a terrific book. I just finished it for the second time and I'm laughing and keeping myself from crying.
I love every book by Kristan Higgins. She really knows how to pull you right into the story. Thanks for your stories.
I love to read romance books.
Just One of the Guys by Kristan Higgins (Audio Edition)
Narrated by Xe Sands
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ This book is great! The first line had me laughing, and I didn't stop till the book was over. I have had this book on my TBR shelf for a while now, and from the blurb I was thinking it was a second chance book (it's not really), it was actually one of my favourite plot types. I don't know why I am always worried I am not going to like her books! Every one I have read... I have Loved!
I read a review of this book, that said you don't get to see much of the hero.. which let's face it, is a clincher for me. I love reading the hero's point of view. However, even though Higgins writes in first person (as Chastity), she writes so well, that you get the feelings of the hero anyway! Trevor shows up all throughout this book, and I couldn't wait to listen to their conversations.
Higgins evokes so many feelings, I love her sense of humour, her characters and secondary characters are fantastic.. and listening to Xe Sands read this book was superb. She has the perfect amount of sarcasm and her male voices were wonderful.
I must agree with a statement I read, not too long ago: “You can't go wrong with a Kristan Higgins book!”
It was a sigh worthy romance!
the story was wonderful. i loved the family bond and their love for each other. I want more can she write another book about this family.
Chastity i loved her sense of humor and he banter with her brothers.
too many to name just one.
this is worth a credit any of Kristan Higgans books are!
What a combination, Kristan Higgins writing and Xe Sands narrating (and Amy Rubinate narrating her other books), You can't help but give them 5+ stars, Great story, so realistic. I am waiting for her next book scheduled to be release late December. Whoever makes the decision on the narrator I will be extremely upset if they don't choose Ms. Sands or Ms. Rubinate or both.
Keep writing Kristan!!!!
I really like the story line but wish the reader would have been better. Her voice did not endear me to the story. Overall it is still worth the listen!
The main character in this book seemed to always be sad and living life full of regret. But the story didn't have enough substance to really carry it through so it ended up a long, depressing, heavy read. You also hardly get to know her main love interest because he's hardly in it. I couldn't wait for it to be over. The narrator was great though, per her usual!
