Publisher's summary

"Joyland is a breathtaking, beautiful, heartbreaking book.... Even the most hardboiled readers will find themselves moved."
—Charles Ardai, Edgar- and Shamus Award-winning editor of Hard Case Crime.

Set in a small-town North Carolina amusement park in 1973, Joyland tells the story of the summer in which college student Devin Jones comes to work as a carny and confronts the legacy of a vicious murder, the fate of a dying child, and the ways both will change his life forever. Joyland is a brand-new novel and has never previously been published.

Loved it!

This is an amazing book with realistic characters and relationships, suspense, thrills, and at times, the warm fuzzies. Think Rita-Hayworth-and-the-Shawshank-Redemption-turned-carny vibe with a supernatural twist.

SUPERB! COULD NOT HAVE ENJOYED IT MORE!

The performance of this story by Micheal Kelly was absolutely perfection...which made King's narrative come alive from page 1 to the end. The characters were instantly interesting and relatable. The story was equally engaging -- it warmed your heart and made you recoil in horror.

Great Subtle, Touching Story

Really enjoyed this “soft spoken” tale of heartbreak, recovery, and supernatural. A pleasant surprise. The reading performance was also top notch.

One of SKs best

There's no monsters, no smoking or urination obsession, no "Oh God the real horror is actually writing" fear of writers block. Just a young man navigating the landscape of loneliness dealing with biological urges, loss, questions about the afterlife. SKs knowledge of the Eastern shore of NC and SC is often as spotty as his "experience" with firearms and it shows, but his frequent references to the fallacies and warped conceptions of TV preachers is sadly amusing. 4 stars overall for political BS in every single book, and if he were any other writer the rating would be much lower.

Michael Kelly was excellent.

Never disappointed!

Joyland is so well written and so sweet. Yes, there are some scary parts and a great mystery, but it’s touching and captivating. Another hit out of the ball park for Stephen King!!
