Surprised

I have seen the movie at least a dozen times. I thought I would be bored. I am so glad I got to hear the book. A whole different experience. Loved it! As I listened the actor’s morphed into new characters. The story difference between book and movie gave a whole new depth. The narrator was fantastic.

What a treat!

I loved this listen as I get ready to hit the beach this week. I haven't seen the movie in a couple of decades, so I didn't feel any need to compare. The book is awesome. Written well and narration is excellent!

Movies don’t follow books

I found these reviews to be deeply disappointing. I don’t think any of these reviews are indicative of the story at hand. Understandably, people come to the novel Jaws because they know the movie Jaws. But, that doesn’t mean you should put in so much stock and expect a word for word recounting of the movie. If they made Harry Potter straight from the book, you need at least 14 movies. My point is, if you’re expecting the movie, don’t bother. This isn’t a story about a shark - it is a story about these peoples’ reaction to a shark and the hysteria that a poor vacation town feels while trying to survive. For what it is, the writing is pretty decent and the audible performance is pretty good. The speaker does drag a bit, so I would listen to it at 1.5 speed so you don’t listen to him drone on. But, he does have a really good voice.

Great suspense and action, unnecessarily lewd.

While the book of course has much more background info and provides far more context, it’s also embarrassingly explicit regarding the sexual thoughts and behaviors of some of the characters. I get wanting to explore the depths of characters’ feelings and desires, but Mr. Benchley does so in a way that felt grimy and superfluous.

A classic American Thriller

The story that bred a franchise...it's not the film; and that's OK! recommended listening!! Benchley hit on this one first!!

Great book

A great book that I think underpins all of American fear that can be imagined. It is much better than the iconic movie and was rather a therapeutic novel to get through. I liked it and I highly recommend this book.

Excitikng and fast moving

Good book, I liked most of the story. There is one major plot line that could have been left out as it was in the movie. I obviously am a Chief Brody fan. Good and somewhat unexpected ending.

Not enough shark

The majority of this book is the sheriffs wife acting like a stupid spoiled brat. Only one third of the book is dedicated to dealing with the actual shark.

The movie was better!

Why would you do this?

Mafia and pointless sexual indiscretions…pointless!

I won’t attach this to my love of the movie.
