What the Critics Say

"The amazingly prolific King returns to pure horror, pitting good against evil as in The Stand and The Shining. Moving back and forth between 1958 and 1985, the story tells of seven children in a small Maine town who discover the source of a series of horrifying murders. Having conquered the evil force once, they are summoned together 27 years later when the cycle begins again. As usual, the requisite thrills are in abundance." (Library Journal)

"The book is Great and the narrator is awesome."

I loved this book!!! I was scared at first to get it because of the 44 + hours it takes to finish. But when I was 30 hours into the book I was sad that it was almost over. I LOVE the narrator Steven Weber he has a great voice and all the voices he does for the characters is just the Best!

The narrator makes this book even better!!!

    "The BEST!!"

Couldn't wait for this book to come out on Audible as it has been so long since I read it. Absolutely worth the credits and time. Steven Weber does a great job with the narration, putting you right in the story and characters.

    "Great!"

Classic Stephen King. This book was a good read and a great listen. Brings back memories of being a kid in a clubhouse (without all of the wierd SK stuff). Steven Weber did an outstanding job of narrating. If you like SK, you'll love this. Now... release "The Stand" or an army of SK fans will march on the capitol of Maine!

    "Even better than reading it"

Stephen King is the greatest of story tellers. I loved this book when I read it two decades ago. Listening to Steven Weber read it aloud is even better. You will feel like you know the kids in this book...if you read it and especially if you listen to this audiobook.

    "Steven Weber is genius"

Wow! I've read this book before, but I feel like I'm "reading" it for the first time. Steven Weber is one of the best narrators I've ever listened to. He's able to act out each of the different characters and his voice is captivating. This audio version will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat!

"Not as good as I remembered."

Loved this book when I read it as a teenager. Not so much now. I just read UNDER THE DOME a few weeks ago and it was so much better. There are a few King books that I've been able to read multiple times (Salem's Lot and The Stand for example), but IT just didn't seem to hold up as well to me and big parts of the book struck me as LAME which I didn't notice as a kid.

Also the weird preteen gang bang scene is just bizarre, gross and embarrassing. Listening to that scene, all I could say was, "Really!? I mean really, Stephen King!"

Eh. Its a long book. Not the worst to spend your credit on if you haven't read it before, but I think you can probably find better options in the audible library to spend your time on.

    "Wow"

I can't say that this novel is anything close to being scary. It was more of a fun adventure. But what really made this book enjoyable was the narrator, Steven Weber. He did an amazing job! He actually brought the characters to life. I'm afraid anything I listen to after this will be a let down. Mr. Weber put a lot of heart and work into reading this. It made the 44 hours seem like 10 hours.

I discovered the joy of audiobooks several years ago when I got a job which is a 45 min drive one way. It continued to keep me mostly sane.

"The two Steve 's pull it off!"

One of my favorite King stories and now tied with Dune as my favorite audio book. Steven Weber gives a superb performance and brings all of the characters alive. Together, the two Steve's make you laugh, cry, gasp (and sometimes gag)Highly Highly recommended. Bravo!!

    "Become a child"

If you ever need to remember what childhood is like; what you were afraid of, the simple joys that made you laugh until your stomach hurt, and how far away adulthood felt, and at the same time enjoy a seriously scary novel, you need to read or listen to this book. I had read the book numerous times before downloading and actually got more out of it in audio form.
