A feel good story

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes-

What other book might you compare Isle of Palms to and why?

I quite enjoy these stories by Dorthea B Frank-they are not all fluff and stuff. They are about real people and how they try and cope with real life vs age old rules handed down to them

Have you listened to any of Robin Miles’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No
But I sure will look for more that she has read

Who was the most memorable character of Isle of Palms and why?

Jim
Ah to have a friend like that without any sexual issues

Such a disappointment

Would you try another book from Dorothea Benton Frank and/or Robin Miles?

I may try another D.B. Frank book but this one really turned me off. Robin Miles did a fine job for what she had to work with.

What could Dorothea Benton Frank have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I have listened to several D.B.Frank books and loved them all, but this one was not up to par. I disliked it from the first chapter and never did feel like there was anything real about the book. Her books follow similar paths, but this was so unbelievable and the main character was too perfect. Her overuse of colloquialisms was tiresome. I almost gave it up several times, but I was walking and listening and persevered.

Which character – as performed by Robin Miles – was your favorite?

None

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Isle of Palms?

Too many to count

Any additional comments?

May return it. I've only done that once before.

Here life is good, why we listen!

Masterfully done, a memorable ending with more than one surprise of a character acting strongly out of character!

Great story

I enjoyed the development of memorable characters and the variety of personalities, of friendships reunited, and always worthwhile for a book to end positively. My first audible and really enjoyed while driving or doing hand crafts, some variety over music.

Very good.

Did I detect a bit of Pat Conroy and Karen White? Why yes- I think I did. Very enjoyable. Worth the time and credit I do believe. My Regards!

This kind of book is the reason women vote against their own interests

I found the story to be long and a bit of a stereotype. The performance was good but the story was long and dithering. The only characters who seems worthy of a book were side characters. I’m not giving anything away when I reveal that the protagonist is violently date raped, her nose broken by her rapist, and she’s impregnated (all first chapter events). But the conclusion is absolutely sickening. I try to finish every book I start. This was an effort. I’m still outraged by the cavalier perspectives the author has towards women who are victims of violence.
