    "Where's the ending????"

So, the interviewer (the boy) goes "down to the corner bar where his car was parked" and then Audible goes to the music and says I hope you have enjoyed this audiobook ????? Wha??!! I have listened to audiobooks for several years now and abridged ones on many occasions but this one is ridiculous! Where is the ending??? The attempt to shorten the book is alright considering they wanted to do so but what the heck??? There is no ending! Audible...you messed this one up! And why is the unabridged version NOT available?? Thanks but no thanks..I want my credit back!

    "Disapointed with Reader"

I loved this book when I originally read it years ago. After reading all the rest of the Vampire Chronicles, I was anxious to revisit this one. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing. The reader came off like an old Dracula movie, not the all too human vampire that Lestat was in the book. In addition, the abridged version left way too much out. If an unabridged version comes out with a better reader, such as the man who read The Vampire Armand or Memnoch the Devil, I will gladly trash my copy of this version in favor of a better rendition.

    "Disappointed"

I loved this book the first time that I read it years ago. I was very unhappy, however, with this abridged version, and the sound quality was far below what I have come to expect from Audible.

"My all-time Favourite Anne Rice story"
If you could sum up Interview with the Vampire in three words, what would they be?

    Riveting, fantastical and sumptuous.

What other book might you compare Interview with the Vampire to and why?

I would make a comparison on the way Rice captures the age and time of Paris, New York and the ol' South to the way Dicken describes it in his 'Tale of Two Cities'.

What about F. Murray Abraham’s performance did you like?

I think the narrator was great.

Who was the most memorable character of Interview with the Vampire and why?

Louis, but of course. His character reveals itself in its true form throughout the book and its his emotional tale that pulls at the heart strings in this first installment in the trilogy.

    "Too much missing"

The story is ok for an abridged version but it's missing a lot of good stuff.

    "Thought provoking"

I originally read this book while onboard ship during Desert Storm in the persian gulf. This story conjures images and arguments and passions for many facets of life. The characters are very rich and interesting because of thier attachments to family and homes of long ago. These characters are developed and well defined and true to thier own individual natures. Not so much a "dracula" tale as an exploration into how different personalities would respond if released from thier earthly ties and given neverending life at a grisley price.

"I wish I had the Unabridged..."

    Bought on Audible
Story rating is a 5 but the audio rating is a 2.5 (gave more weight to the story)

What I Loved: This is a fantastic story! It is one full of intrigue, love, loss, beautiful locations, wonderful characters, and at its core the story of a man's life as he sees it. This is one of those books that can get people hooked on reading and leave them wanting more of the story. Say what you will but Anne Rice is a wonderful story teller. I could say so much more but you really should discover this story on your own. Please understand that the movie (for those that have seen it) is such a small part of what this story has in store with you.

What I Liked: This book is full of richness in detail. Each location, each person, and each emotion is so well described that you can see and feel each of them. It will make you want to visit the locations in real life and see if you can picture the story unfolding there.

Complaints: None about the story but will list the audiobook complaints in the Audio Section.

Audiobook Specific Review: First, I bought the abridged version (did not realize it) so it was more like a reading of the movie as opposed to the book. There was too much left out and I was glad that I had read the book so I knew the depth of the story. Second, F. Murray Abraham did an ok job with what he was given. I did not really like his version of Lestat's voice but he did a good job with Louis. I would say listen to this version if you are looking for a short retelling of the book but would recommend you read the book first.

Why I gave it a 4: Unfortunately I am doing a combo book/audio review. If I was just talking about the book it would be a 5 hands down. This is one of my favorite books of all time. The audio though is just standard at best and the abridged version that I listened too was too chopped.

Who I would recommend this too: I would recommend anyone who likes good stories buy the book. I am not sure I would recommend the audio version so anyone.

"Great story but reader could do better"
Would you consider the audio edition of Interview with the Vampire to be better than the print version?

I enjoy audio books because I can 'read' while doing other things, like knitting, doing dishes, excersizing, driving, ect.
I also have a rather hard time sitting down to read a book because I read very slowly. This audio book is abridged but if you have seen the movie you can follow along quite nicely and not feel like you missed anything. The unabridged version is better though.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Interview with the Vampire?

The ending of the book was the most memorable part for me.. I cannot go into too much detail without giving away the ending but it was definately a twist.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I have always enjoyed F. Murray Abraham's acting, however he is not a character actor so in this performance all the males have the same voice, as do the females. At times it is difficult to tell who is talking when you don't create a seperate 'voice' for each character.

If you could take any character from Interview with the Vampire out to dinner, who would it be and why?

This is by far the hardest question because if I took any character out to dinner I would become dinner LOL

    Any additional comments?

pay the few extra bucks for the unabridged version of this book!

    "Poor Presentation"

I really love this book. In fact it has to be one of my top five favorite books. However I didn't care for the narrator. He lack Louis passion. It also did not help that this was abridged. I really did not like that. There was way to much that was dropped. And because of it, you never get a true feel for any of the characters.

    "ok but not great"

    F. Murray Abraham reads this book wonderfully, it is let down but the amount of detail missed in the abridged version.

    "short changed"

Having read the full unabridged version of this title, I felt short changed by this audio book. I really don't see the point of butchering books this way.
