Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Alison Weir has earned her reputation as the preeminent historian of British royalty. Now with Innocent Traitor, Weir utilizes her vast knowledge and captivating narrative style to craft her first historical novel, choosing Lady Jane Grey, the most sympathetic heroine of Tudor England, as her enthralling subject.

The child of a scheming father and ruthless mother, Jane is born during a time when ambition dictates action. Cousin to Edward VI, Mary I, and Elizabeth I, she is merely a pawn in a political and religious game in which one false step means a certain demise. But Lady Jane has remarkable qualities that help her to withstand the constant pressures of the royal machinery far better than most expect.

Weir's striking novel sweeps readers back through the centuries to witness firsthand one of the most poignant tales from a time of constant scheming and power brokering.

Great story

I couldn't stop listening to it This was one of the best audible books I have had the pleasure of listening to. I look forward to more of Alison Weir's books.

Mental Visualization

This book was one that made me think afterwards. I shut off the iphone, and sat quiet for awhile in the kitchen.

Recommended... I listened to the audio in the car and finished at home carrying around the book on MP3. I love this time period, love the way it is done in 1st person, (usually don't like 1st), and really love how it meant something to me.

Wow!

Great book. I couldn't stop listening. This historical novel reminds me of why we should all be grateful that we have a separation of Church and State in this country. Well written, well read.

I was into it

I want to like historical fiction, and this book made it very easy. It was gripping from near the very beginning, and the narrators are fantastic (at least the women - and the male narrator has a really small part). I have already purchased another Alison Weir book.

Vacation in the 16th century

Sick and tired of today's world? Let Alison Weir take you on a fabulous time journey to 16th- century England, where heads roll, plots abound, virtue and vice live and die side by side. This is an absolutely delicious book, scholarly but highly accessible, romantic and exciting but educational, with a remarkable heroine both admirable and tragic. The readers are first-rate, great voices, classy accents, perfect renditions, just mesmerizing. The author knows her history and knows how to serve it up as a tasty confection for the mind.

A lesser known English queen

What made the experience of listening to Innocent Traitor the most enjoyable?

Historic story well told about the woman who is manipulated into being queen for a few days. It definitely makes you care about a historic figure who is nowhere as well known as other women of the same period, including Queens Elizabeth and Mary (and Henry's multiple wives). Even knowing how it turns out, the story holds up to the end. Well narrated.

Wonderful

This is the first book I had listened to of this type, normally I listen to mysteries, but this book kept me listening time and time again. Even though I'm familiar with this historical story, the author, and all of the narrators, keep you enamored. Very well done.

Better than average historical fiction

Overall, I was impressed with this story. There were a few times where my attention started to drift, but for the most part, I found the story compelling and the narration easy to listen to.

But the recording

I absolutely love the story I was able to get lost in the narration. But the recording… There were moments that I lost sentences, and the transition between paragraphs was super tight… Almost jarring. Still, would listen to again.

Must read/listen!

The author has done a superb job at making these characters come to life. I already had a soft spot for Lady Jane, but now I have an even deeper appreciation for her.
