Critic reviews

"Laced with fantastical mysticism, it’s an allegory of nonviolence, acceptance and love in the face of adversity. . . . The narrative is intense, with an old-fashioned ominousness and artistically crafted descriptions. . . . An optimistic and unexpected conclusion [mirrors] his theme. Something different this way comes from Mr. Koontz’s imagination. Enjoy." ( Kirkus Reviews)
"Entrancing . . . as speedy a chase-thriller as any Koontz . . . has ever constructed. Written in Koontz’ late mellifluent and reflective manner . . . [ Innocence is] fueled by deep disgust with the world’s evils [and] hope for redemption" ( Booklist, starred review)
"[An] imaginative, mystical thriller from bestseller Koontz . . . This is the most satisfying Koontz standalone in a while" ( Publishers Weekly)

Excellent

It has been a long time since I have been so into a book that I couldn't stop listening to it. What kept me involved most was wanting to know where it was leading. While most of the expected Koontz elements still involved, he takes us down a new path and therefore to a new answer.
Having read through decades of Books from this author, I recognize a definite mellowing to his style, I like it.
I was nervous about the narration at first, seemed a bit too mellow, but found that he is a perfect fit to the story and characters.

Koontz declining?

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Maybe. The story was just ok, it had me intrigued at first then I started fearing as I have for the last few Koontz books he deteriorates into what I've been calling it, a "born again attitude"

If you’ve listened to books by Dean Koontz before, how does this one compare?

I've been an avid fan for many many years, Watcher being my first grabbed me and Koontz continued to entertain me with awesome stories. However many of his newer books all seem to end with some "god" message. I'll be transparent here and announce that I'm an Atheist so when I keep reading endings that are to me, trying to be biblical in message it greatly turns me off, and this is no different. I've been off Koontz because of what I stated above for some time but I've so missed his style and his great writing that I gave "Innocence" a try only to be disappointed once again.....but that's just me..

What three words best describe MacLeod Andrews’s voice?

Bland

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Not now that I know the ending..

Any additional comments?

I think I will go back to Koontz's older stuff. Frankenstein series was great!

Beautiful premise

This is a story about good and evil where good triumphs and the hand of God is evident. One of Koontz’s best! I have read many of his from his early ones!

Riviting

An absolutely entrancing tale. Not once during the telling of this story before the great reveal did I suspect the truth nor where the story was headed. The writing was very poetic, which I appreciated greatly. As always Dean Koontz did not disappoint.

Outstanding, simply outstanding!

I thought the storyline sounded intriguing, and it was a daily deal, so I figured I'd give it a shot. I was astounded at the story and the "afflictions" some of the characters carried. Narration was perfection. I've read two other Koontz books and enjoyed them, found them entertaining, enjoyed the story lines and big reveals were quite creative. This one, however, took me by utter surprise. It will stay with me for a long time. I've ordered the physical copy of the book to read, too. I loved it that much and want to savor it in writing. I haven't read any other reviews about this book and am guessing others might not have liked it as much as me and perhaps others did. It might be one of those that people either loved or hated. I l-o-v-e-d !

Innocence

There was nothing I didn't like about this book. Totally inspirational in the goodness of our places in life and the value of each and every one of us individual to live and be the best we can by acceptance and love and forgiving of all especially ourselves and do better. Not to judge other or discount other just because of their differences where they come from or how they look. Trust love and have courage.

Loved it

Loved this story and the main character who is innocent but not ridiculous . Dean Koontz is a Master in telling a story, in my opinion.
