Innocence | [Kathleen Tessaro]

Innocence

It's 1987 and Evie is leaving home for the first time, headed for London to study acting. Along with her fellow students and roommates, Imogene (a born again Laura Ashley poster child and frustrated virgin) and Robbie (native New Yorker, budding bohemian, and very much not a virgin), Evie's determined to make her mark both on stage and off. But then life and love, in the shape of struggling rock musician Jake Albery, intervene. And everything changes.

Publisher's Summary

Sunday Times best-selling author Kathleen Tessaro returns with a stunning new novel that will be a big hit with fans of her debut success Elegance.

Fourteen years later and Evie's stuck. She's now a single mother teaching drama classes, her dreams long since abandoned. Robbie's dead, killed in car accident, and Imo's lost touch. Then a friendship from the past comes to haunt Evie. Literally. And suddenly everything is about to change again.

    "Delightful 'read'"

Great book to spend the weekend with! Beautifully read by Laurel Lefkow (though some of the accents are a bit weird). Funny, sad and optimistic. Enjoy!

    Story
"Great narrator but the book is all over the place"
What was most disappointing about Kathleen Tessaro’s story?

as i've mentioned in the headline, the book was all over the place. there are some characters that have no impact on the plot, events that have no meaning, the end is quite expected and the main character is pretty dull...

What about Laurel Lefkow’s performance did you like?

LOVE this narrator, though. she is believable and follows the listener throughout the story in a wonderful way and mesmerizing voice.

    Any additional comments?

a nice one. not more than that.

    "Excellent piece of chick lit!!"

I bought this audiobook to listen to in the car whilst driving to work. It was a total change from my usual, more serious choice of book. However, I have to admit that I absolutely loved it! The story kept my interest and, unlike the previous reviewer, I felt that the narrator did an excellent job in handling the wide variety of accents called for in the story. At least, it sounded pretty good to me in the car!

Just after I'd downloaded this book I thought I'd made a mistake, but it turned out to be an excellent choice. It's definitely a piece of 'chick-lit', but really, really well done. I loved it!
