Julep Maddox wants one thing: to launch her dental practice. In her way: a hot-mess of a secretary, a delicious distraction named Andrew. Oh, and also...the mob. Now instead of focusing on her business, she's doing j-turns in the middle of the night, using dental floss as a weapon, and hiding in a strange bathroom to solve a kidnapping.
What else could possibly go wrong?

I was given this audio book in exchange for an honest review. This book was just funny from the beginning.
I love things that make me laugh and I loved this book. This is the story of Julep, a young woman getting ready to set up her own dental practice. Her life is turning out to be quite interesting. She meets a really yummy guy who can't take his eyes off of her. Turns out she has a painted mustache she wasn't aware of. They develop a relationship that is a friends only relationship with a tinge of something more. It's difficult to believe any more of a relationship could develop with the craziness that is her life. I don't want to give anything away, but try to imagine Celine Dion, hair dye, cops on the take, tanning solution, dental floss and mobsters all in one story, It was light, funny and so entertaining!
By now you know I liked the story, but the narration was just as good. Alissa Zea did a great job with the pacing, the voices and the overall craziness!
I don't really listen to books again once I've listen to them once. If there was a sequel I would definitely purchase it.
As I previously stated this audiobook is "CUTE"! I enjoyed getting to know the characters and found myself laughing out loud multiple times. Fun, Funny and entertaining!
Alissa Zea was perfect for this audiobook! She was able to bring each of the characters to life with the quirkiness of her voice.
I love books...I love storytelling. Audiobooks allow me to enjoy a great story while still being able to do my daily routine. Thanks Audible
The author, thoroughly enjoys watching comedies. It was evident throughout the entire piece. There were many times I thought of Lucille Ball. Other times, Jerry Lewis or Seinfeld or Friends.
The story had way too many crazy situations for me to enjoy listening to it more than once. Overall it just wasn't my type of story. Having mentioned this, the narrator did a great job of pulling off the funny punchlines, the snarky behavior of the main character (Jules) and the sillyness of her air-head secretary (Kaylee). Bravo. Unfortunately, it was hard for me at times to distinguish the various female main characters when they were in the same scene.
No. It was too much for one sitting. Perfect for gardening though.
I received a copy via audiobook boom in exchange for an unbiased review.
I'm a cheerleader for authors, narrators and audiobooks I love! All things Romance, Horror and Sci Fi
I'm always nervous when I listen to the second book from an author I've recently discovered, nervous because I'm not sure if the book will live up to my expectations. I needn't have worried, it's clear I just enjoy the way Eryn tells a story!
This book is a combination of comedy and mystery, Julep is opening a dental practice but she has a couple of complications, one is Andrew who "helps" her out when she needs to quickly hire a receptionist. The second complication is Kaylee the ditzy receptionist that Andrew referred, a very strange, Celine Dion singing girl who can't even seem to remember where she hails from, let the comedy begin!
This quirky little feel good book has plenty of laugh out loud moments, it's categorized under romance, but in actuality, there's very little romance, it's more of a chick-lit mystery if you ask my opinion. It matters not one bit, it's all good fun!
This audiobook was gifted to me exchange for an unbiased review!
Julep and Em are both delightful and I enjoyed their realistic and relatable friendship.
Julep. Really relatable, fun, open and vulnerable, when needed.
... moved me to laughter ... absolutely! This is my second audiobook of an Eryn Carpenter book and I just love that both made me giggle out loud (all by myself, no less!). I just really appreciate her ability to let the humor of her characters come forth ... without seeming forced or over the top. Just a really friendly, familiar humor!
If it has letters strung into words that form a story which draws me in, I won't be able to resist it. Is there a reader's anonymous?
I really like this book. It fell into the ‘nice, fun, cozy listen’ category for me.
I’ll admit, the main reveal point regarding Julep’s secretary is something I had guessed early into the book (and this might have been on purpose by the author, I’m not sure), but despite that, I really wanted to find out how long it would take the main character to figure it out, and the road to her finding out what was up with Kaeli (Kaylee?) was funny and entertaining. The book has elements of crazy situational comedy; characters you want to spend time with; and a lot of witty, funny lines. Seriously, some of the descriptions made me do one of those ‘burst-chuckle laughs’ as I was listening.
I enjoyed the narrator. It was a different narrator from the one in a previous Eryn Scott book I’d listened to, but this one was just as good. Each character had a distinct voice while still being distinctly quirky, making them easy to tell apart. The voice used for Andrew was good (i.e. NOT over gruff or annoyingly over low register-ed). The voice used for the main character’s running interior narrative is exactly what I would have made it sound like.
In a book like this where there is comedy in how the characters interact; the various situations they find themselves in; and how they react to these situations; a good narrator/author combo can make the book move from good to great. Especially with the narrator needing to put sarcasm, snark, or ‘eye-roll’ into her tone to really get the characters across. This book succeeded there. Granted, some of the scenes were a bit over the top, but they fit in with the book’s overall tone, and added to some of the punchlines.
I got this book for an honest review, and am really glad I had the chance to listen to it. I was about to start a cross-country move when I started the book, and it definitely helped keep me sane. Normally I would have given it 4-stars, but I kept wanting to listen to this book as I was doing various ‘listen-friendly’ tasks, so that bumps it up to 5. Would recommend to anyone wanting a fun, cute-story; and who appreciates sit-com type stories with a plot that makes you want to keep spending time with the characters just to see what craziness will happen.
Jules pulls you right in with her excitement of the dental practice!
When you meet Kaleigh, she steal the show.
Love the book and breezed through it!
Bravo Eryn & Alissa!
I have been slowly going though Eryn's book and I have feel in love with her! She makes me laugh and even cry. I love that she writes love be stories but don't make them all about the man and women. This book is short but a must read!
Enjoy reading fiction, thrillers (JD Robb), romance, military and comedy (Evanovich). Listen to Audiobooks on treadmill and long road trips!
Good story, a mix of light romcom, light suspense. Great narration.
