Publisher's summary

The beloved Fannie Flagg is back and at her irresistible and hilarious best in I Still Dream About You, a comic mystery romp through the streets of Birmingham, Alabama, past, present, and future.

Meet Maggie Fortenberry, a still beautiful former Miss Alabama. To others, Maggie’s life seems practically perfect - she’s lovely, charming, and a successful real-estate agent at Red Mountain Realty. Still, Maggie can’t help but wonder how she wound up in her present condition. She had been on her hopeful way to becoming Miss America and realizing her childhood dream of someday living in one of the elegant old homes on top of Red Mountain, with the adoring husband and the 2.5 children, but then something unexpected happened and changed everything.

Maggie graduated at the top of her class at charm school, can fold a napkin in more than 48 different ways, and can enter and exit a car gracefully, but all the finesse in the world cannot help her now. Since the legendary real-estate dynamo Hazel Whisenknott, beloved founder of Red Mountain Realty, died five years ago, business has gone from bad to worse - and the future isn’t looking much better. But just when things seem completely hopeless, Maggie suddenly comes up with the perfect plan to solve it all.

Pleasantly surprised.

I was very hesitant about listening to a story based on someone planning to end their life because I struggle with depression. I stopped and started listening to this book several times. I finally decided to listen to the book based on how much I loved one of her other audio books. It started off pretty slow, but it got better as it went along. There were so many surprising twists and turns that kept me guessing in addition to a mystery which was pretty intriguing. While it never made light of the subject matter, it was laugh out loud funny at times. I’m so glad I decided to listen to it.

Another treasure from Fannie Flagg!

A wonderful story about life, what you make of it and, as Churchill said, “never, never, never give up”….and how life sometimes doesn’t let you! Fannie Flagg’s genius in storytelling entertains, surprises and makes me wistful and then laugh aloud once again. Wonderfully performed on Audible by the author, herself. Loved it!!!!

Flagging this audio

Have you ever dreamed of taking your own life? This audio read by the author bases a book around this notion. How can that be entertaining? Well, it was. Full of twists and turns, sometimes outrageous, sometimes hilarious, sometimes sad and upsetting, I was captivated by the characters, some alive and others very much alive in the hearts of those they left. I appreciated that it was read to me by the author. Thank you.

Another Winner . .

I've always loved Fannie Flagg . . . she is a master storyteller. Not many authors are able to narrate their own books . . . but she does a fantastic job!!! The characters she creates are so representative of so many people we've known and loved or hated throughout life. I'm so glad I bought the audio version . . . it's like remembering when you were small and your parents read you a story . . .

Love Fannie Flagg

This is good easy listen. I like Fannie Flagg's books, nice clean plots, uncluttered cast of characters, no great mental gymnastics to keep up, relaxing and a nice little escape. This type of book appeals to a wide cross section of people, even if some of these listeners like other genres.

Love the characters, but story is lacking

I have read all of Fannie Flagg's books and enjoyed the characters and narration of this one, but the story falls short. However, if you like a happy ending like in the movies, you won't have a problem with this one. I'm just not someone who likes to invest themselves in a story/characters only to have it all magically work-out at the end. Just leaves me flat....

The best narrator is by far the author!

There is no better way to get the author's true intention for the story and characters than to have the author read it herself!

Not Fannie's Best, But Still Good

What made the experience of listening to I Still Dream About You the most enjoyable?

I enjoyed the main character. Her observations and actions were believable.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Maggie was my favorite. The subject matter dealt with aging, a subject I am dealing with, myself. It was interesting to read Maggie's take ( and also Fannie's) on it.

Which character – as performed by Fannie Flagg – was your favorite?

I loved the portrayal of the "little person" and gives a new perspective on people who are different.

If you could rename I Still Dream About You, what would you call it?

Finding Myself All Over Again

Any additional comments?

This was an enjoyable story with interesting characters. I love Fannie's books. This one was not quite so engrossing as some, but still a good read.
