Publisher's summary

The beloved Fannie Flagg is back and at her irresistible and hilarious best in I Still Dream About You, a comic mystery romp through the streets of Birmingham, Alabama, past, present, and future.

Meet Maggie Fortenberry, a still beautiful former Miss Alabama. To others, Maggie’s life seems practically perfect - she’s lovely, charming, and a successful real-estate agent at Red Mountain Realty. Still, Maggie can’t help but wonder how she wound up in her present condition. She had been on her hopeful way to becoming Miss America and realizing her childhood dream of someday living in one of the elegant old homes on top of Red Mountain, with the adoring husband and the 2.5 children, but then something unexpected happened and changed everything.

Maggie graduated at the top of her class at charm school, can fold a napkin in more than 48 different ways, and can enter and exit a car gracefully, but all the finesse in the world cannot help her now. Since the legendary real-estate dynamo Hazel Whisenknott, beloved founder of Red Mountain Realty, died five years ago, business has gone from bad to worse - and the future isn’t looking much better. But just when things seem completely hopeless, Maggie suddenly comes up with the perfect plan to solve it all.

Still Dream

I really enjoyed this book. It's not life changing, but certainly uplifting. Great humor.

Very Enjoyable!

I loved this book. It was very entertaining with surprising twists and turns. I especially enjoyed all the references to Birmingham, which were so familiar. I’m so glad it was narrated by Fannie Flagg with her authentic southern accent; no one else could have done it justice!

Wonderful!

Fannie Flagg never disappoints. Her characters are real and you can relate to them. I listened to this book at work. Several times I laughed and my co-workers wondered what I was listening to! Another great read/listen from Miss Flagg. Keep writing please and I will keep buying.

Light and delightful

Fannie Flagg is a great storyteller, but I didn't realize what a good reader she is. Knowing the author was reading the story herself gave it another dimension for me because there are not a large number of fiction writers out there who could pull this off. I enjoyed the tale, found a few parts of it contrived, and one plot convention in particular left me thinking that the sub plot about Edwina Crocker should be its own book, rather than an uncomfortably included story unrelated to the heroine here. Maggie is a bit less than a fully believable character, but the story flows well, and has a happy ending. All in all light reading to keep you occupied while doing something else.

Bit Darker Fannie

If you are a fan of Fannie Flagg you will enjoy this story, but it is just a bit dark. It is a "true to life" accounting of the relationships between family and friends. I think that it moves her storytelling from parenting years to the retirement and widow years.

Fannie should always read her books. No one else can do them justice.

I had to write a thank-you note

Any additional comments?

I just wrote Ms. Fannie Flagg a Thank You note! I must admit that before this book I was only peripherally aware of her written work, remembering her best from her many appearances on Match Game in the 1970s. Since I have been spending countless hours working on my home and garden north of Atlanta, I’ve been consuming Audible books voraciously. Watching one of many re-runs of the old Match Game shows on Buzzer made me think – “Why not check out all the books that Fannie has authored? She is delightful and funny on the show. I imagine she writes in much the same tone. I did enjoy the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes.” So I picked "I Still Dream About You", admittedly on the strength of the fact that it was relatively long – a good value for the Audible download price.

I found the writing engaging. Even though some of my thoughts in the early chapters were “Where the heck is this going?” I listened on because I trusted her, and she and her characters were just so darned likable – except for Babs, who I really loved to hate.

Now I can’t wait to download my next Fannie Flagg best seller!

Funny and not expected

I had to listen twice to get the full idea of the book. On second run through I could understand the humor in the main character's dilemma. It wasn't laugh out loud but good enough.

lovely characters. I loved it

I really loved the characters in this book. That came alive through the wonderful storytelling of Fannie Flagg. It helped so much that she narrated the audibles version. I've read many of Fannie Flagg books and this one did not disappoint.
