Publisher's Summary

David Sedaris's beloved holiday collection is new again with six more pieces, including a never before published story. Along with such favorites as the diaries of a Macy's elf and the annals of two very competitive families, are Sedaris's tales of tardy trick-or-treaters ("Us and Them"); the difficulties of explaining the Easter Bunny to the French ("Jesus Shaves"); what to do when you've been locked out in a snowstorm ("Let It Snow"); the puzzling Christmas traditions of other nations ("Six to Eight Black Men"); what Halloween at the medical examiner's looks like ("The Monster Mash"); and a barnyard secret Santa scheme gone awry ("Cow and Turkey").

No matter what your favorite holiday, you won't want to miss celebrating it with the author who has been called "one of the funniest writers alive" (Economist).

"Love this !! Sedaris flexes his writing muscles!"

Reaching through words stars not yet discovered!
His stories always end at his beginnings and visa versa! Songs to my ears and my own North Carolina experiences!

Great read for the holidays. I really enjoyed his essay on the differences between countries in how they celebrate Christmas.

    Story
    "Hilarious"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

    Yes

Who was your favorite character and why?

    David as the Santa Elf

Have you listened to any of David Sedaris’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes as many as I can. This is up to the same quality.

    Any additional comments?

This is a little too dark for anyone under 40 to hear.

    "Comic Genius"

Once again in this new edition Sedaris shows his creative ingenuity and why he is one of our favorite, best selling authors. The story comparing cultural Santas is sheer comic genius and side-splittingly hilarious. Just buy it.

    "Depressing and sardonic"

Horrible and depressing! Of the 12 chapters, only one was amusing. the rest were poisoned by cruel and/or arrogant undertones. Worst holiday entertainment I've ever read or heard.

    "Too dark"

Sedaris has always been better at memoirs than fiction. The dark sense of humor fails to land in most of the stories included. the only ones I enjoyed are Santaland, French Class, and 6-8 Black men.

    "Just what I needed!"

To get me through part one of the 2016 holidays. It's bad enough spending time with extended family, but I'll take David Sedaris singing over my conservative family any day of the week.
Though not his best book by any means it was 100% worth the sale price. It had some stories I'd heard and loved and a few new ones to delight. Honestly the Holiday Letter had me in tears.

Love some of David's stuff but find others a bit bizarre. So this is not all holiday fare by any means

Every single story is a Holiday treat spiked w/sarcasm, humor, and maybe a little Rum.
