Publisher's summary

Keeley Murdock's wedding to A.J. Jernigan should have been the social event of the season. But when she catches her fiance doing the deed with her maid of honor at the country club rehearsal dinner, all bets are off. And so is the wedding. Keeley pitches the hissy fit of the century, earning herself instant notoriety in the small town of Madison, Georgia.

Even worse is the financial pressure A.J.'s banking family brings to bear on Keeley's interior design business. But riding to the rescue, in a vintage yellow Cadillac, is the redheaded stranger who's bought a failing local bra plant. Will Mahoney hires Keeley to redo the derelict antebellum mansion he's bought. Her assignment: decorate it for the woman of his dreams, a woman he's never met.

Only a designing woman like Keeley Murdock can find a way to clear her name and give her cheating varmint of an ex-fiance the comeuppance he so richly deserves. And only Mary Kay Andrews can deliver such delicious social satire. With Hissy Fit, she's created a story as outrageous, dishy, and true as Savannah Blues and Little Bitty Lies.

Critic reviews

  • Audie Award Finalist, Fiction (abridged), 2005

"Mixed in with the mystery and romance is a liberal helping of comedy, thanks to Isabel Keating's delightful, down-to-earth, and completely Southern vocal characterizations." (AudioFile)
"This is the third Andrews title...and it's obvious she's on a roll....Andrews' descriptions of antique furniture and heart-pine flooring are so lush and appealing that they will seduce even the decorating-challenged. Throw in the idyllic southern setting and the humorous, often-scintillating banter, and you've got yourself another winning read." (Booklist)
"Darker than the book's fluffy title suggests, this black comedy is riven with shocking secrets. And Keeley's vast knowledge of all things antique offers a fascinating peek into the luscious world of designer home furnishing, sure to make readers drool with envy over sideboards and sofas." (Publishers Weekly)

Take this review with a grain of salt

I have to qualify my review with the fact that I'm not a big audiobook fan. I'm a lousy listener.

I've read the book in print, it's one of my favorite books. I thought it might help if I had already read the book. But nope, still not a fan. I'm not sure if it is this narrator, but I thought it was too Southern, and at times, I had a hard time keeping track of which character was talking.

A miss on the Southern accent

I love Mary Kay Andrews and her books, I just wish they could find someone who is actually from Georgia to read them.

Good, but

Really good, enjoyable book. Takes it time with telling the story of Keely & Will. Only complaint is quiet a bit is missing from the Audible version of Hissy Fit. Why?

Entertaining

Fun short listen. The accent is authentic to my southern ears. Sounds just like my friend from Florida.
Not high literature, but a fun story well told

Not the full book

Some parts were cut out of this book. Maybe to save time? The performance was lovely, however

Great MKA story - Hissy Fit for me Yes!

Again, this is another great story by Mary Kay Andrews, but this audiobook was a disappointment. First, I would recommend the audiobook if you want an abridged version to a MKA story - you will not be disappointed.

However, if you are like me and enjoy the back story to the typical MKA book then you are going to want to throw a hissy fit on this one. I REALLY wished that you were offered to buy the abridged or unabridged version of these books. If that is not feasible then MKA books really need to be unabridged. The back story provides so much information.

Isabel Keating who narrates a majority of the MKA books usually is great in bringing the story to life. However, this reading left me exhausted because it seemed to be read rapidly and over emotional.

My review seems to be negative, and that is not what I am trying to be, but I am now buying the book version and having to read it to answer a lot of my questions about the characters.
