"Evanovich tells her fast-paced and furiously funny story expertly. The action never stops, the dialogue is snappy and the characters are more than memorable. Readers can't miss with this one." (Publishers Weekly)
High Five is representative of all of the "Stephanie Plum" books -- it's light, funny, and contains just enough "serious" content to create a ghost of of plot. In short--it's perfect for listening to while driving too & from work, or doing odd jobs aroung the house. But I have to say -- I was disappointed in this particular reader. Two and a half hours of straight read in a heavy New York/New Jersey accent, with few variations in inflection, tone, or cadence almost turned this into a giant snooze session for me.
I really enjoy Janet Evonovich's stories when I am driving, but this narrator made it difficult to enjoy this particular episode. Her thick accent, poor enunciation, and speaking too quickly all combined to make it challenging to understand the story at times. It's too bad, because the story itself made me smile and laugh out loud at times, the storyline was great, as always, and I loved the ending...I'll have to listen to the next book to find out which of the two men Stephanie chose.
This book would be good if Lorelei King were reading it. No one can read the Plum books like King.
NO, I can't stand the narrator!
No, She has no variation in her characters voices and she sounds more like a young black girl than a white woman. She reads way to fast and I couldn't understand some of her words at all. I wanted to hear the book and since she was the only choice I pushed my way through it...that goodness it was the short version!!
The person that read the first four books was much better. The reader just didn't have it.
Joe Morelli is my favorite as he is so cool.
After listening to the first 4 books she just didn't have it.
not fleshed out and too much money for such a short story
needs to be longer or cheaper
This was only 2 plus hours. Way shorter than her other books, and the girl that did the reading was really bad. She was way too fast and no where near a good as the previous reader. Not worth the money!! Book Six is the same way. My recommendation is just save your money and skip over these two books.
Janet still wrote a funny book, just way too short for the money.
She was the worst!! Very little emotion and way too fast. Sad really.
Anger and disappointment!!
I often could not understand what the reader said. Her accent was cute but she spoke way way to fast. I wondered if she spoke so fast because it was an abridged version, which I have never bought before. I'm leery about buying book 6 as it's the same reader and abridged. I may just skip to book 7.
I've been listening to this series, and I absolutely love the stories, but this narrator is absolutely the WORST NARRATOR EVER. I'd rather read the cliff's notes and move on to the next book because she ruined the entire story. It was like listening to the Gilmore Girls on speed, no breaths between words, sentences, or thoughts. Ever. I would have rated her performance a zero if I could. This makes me want my money back.
Very disappointing afte listening to the first 4 in the series, narrated by C.J. Critt! This narrator is distracting - reads too fast, and I HATE her accent! Also, why is a 3 hour book so expensive!???? Think I'll return it, and I won't buy any more, because there aren't any more narrated by Critt, and I don't want to take any more chances on these narrators.
