Publisher's summary

America's favorite bounty hunter is back behind the wheel in her fifth hilarious, high-octane thriller. Out of bail skippers and rent money, Stephanie Plum throws caution to the wind and follows in the entrepreneurial bootsteps of expert bounty hunter Ranger, engaging in morally correct and marginally legal enterprises. Okay, so a scumball blows himself to bits on her first day of policing a crack house, and the sheik she was chauffeuring steals the limo. But hey, nobody's perfect.

Critic reviews

"Evanovich tells her fast-paced and furiously funny story expertly. The action never stops, the dialogue is snappy and the characters are more than memorable. Readers can't miss with this one." (Publishers Weekly)

Terrible narration awesome story

I love this storyline but the narration is terrible. She talks too fast, without any change in voice for characters making it hard to follow along.

Thank God for the lady that said the unabridged version of this book is out on YouTube for free. I was prepared to skip this one but wanted to hear the story progression but couldn’t handle the narration.

I’m listening to the unabridged version now on YouTube.

Story good but…

The story was good but I hate books that are abridged I didn’t want to skip for fear I would miss something important like the crazy boxer finally getting his due. Still wandering what I missed from not having the unabridged version. Not fair!

Her voice

Her voice and speech are too fast. She faded in and out of character voices.

Feels like we missed a lot of the story

Did not like the narrator. Why can’t I get the unabridged book on audible? Really missed out on this one.

Fastest book in the Burgh

Really was disappointed. Narrator too fast, little voice variation, she rolled right over the story, which was too short, having been abridged.

WHY DID THEY CHANGE THE READER????

Love the books and really wanted to listen to them all. With this reader I am done with the series. She just doesn't make it IMO.

Great book, terrible narrator.

I have to agree with the other reviewers that the narrator on this Plum book was awful. I love all of the Stephanie Plum books and have listened to the first 4 narrated by CJ Critt who does a wonderful job, and the book itself is another winner. The Narrator however is not. No inflection, no cadence, just one long monotone reading. The only reason I was able to make it through this one was it was much shorter, being abridged and it is still a Stephanie Plum book which is always entertaining in it's own right, bad reading aside.
This version is only worth getting if you can't get one narrated by someone else (not sure it one is available) or you can't just read the book yourself.

Debi Mazar

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It passed the time driving down the road but this was not the most enjoyable audiobook I've ever listened to.

Would you be willing to try another book from Janet Evanovich? Why or why not?

I enjoy Janet Evanovich and I may read more of her books.

What didn’t you like about Debi Mazar’s performance?

She spoke entirely to fast so that some sentences sounded like one long garbled word! She didn't give the characters distinctive voices so that if I wasn't paying close attention I had to rewind so I would know who was talking. Even though I have been enjoying the Stephanie Plum series I think I will skip the next one, as I see Debi Mazar is reading that one. Audible, why would you have not had CJ Critt read all of the Stephanie Plum books! She was great!

Low Five

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, if you're reading the entire series. No if you're only sampling.

What other book might you compare High Five to and why?

Any of the Stephaine Plum books.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

One voice - tough to tell which character is talking. Phony New Jersey accent.

Who was the most memorable character of High Five and why?

Randy Briggs.

Bad choice for a narrator

I will not listen to any book that uses this narrator. I love this series but did not enjoy this one at all because of the way it was read.
