Kent Anthony is a brilliant software engineer who is cashing in on a brilliant career. He's finally living the idyllic life, far from thoughts of theft and murder and other kinds of horrible criminal behavior. He's left his past far behind.... or so he thinks. This story will bring you face to face with a hidden world more real than most people ever realize; a world where the unseen is more powerful than anything seen.

"[Heaven's Wager] is genuinely exciting...fast-paced...spine-tingling..." (Publishers Weekly)
This book was so well written, I felt like I was actually a character in the book. I could feel the emotions that the characters were going through, even so much as to keep me awake from the adrenaline! When Kent Anthony was wronged, I felt like I had been wronged too. I've never had that experience with a book before. I will definitely be downloading the other books in this series!
Do things like the old testament trials of Job still happen today? The core premise of the book is, yes, they do. I love the characters, especially the Grandma. The plot is interesting and fresh. But the most impressive quality of this book is the focus on the spiritual nature of the struggles of the protagonist.
If you are a believing Christian, you will love this book.
Retired bookkeeper, married, Mom of 2, two granddaughters. Love cozy mysteries.
Enjoyed this book. Dekker is a Christian, so if you're offended by Christian themes, you will not like this book. I enjoy most of Dekker's writing. This story held my interest and consequently I've decided to buy more in this series.
Not my usual download, but this book was surprisingly good.. It was well written and well narrated.. It kept me guessing till the end which is hard for someone who plows thru as many books as I do..
Oh brother Dekker..oh precious Ted Dekker...I typed a few days ago, looking for authors like Frank Peretti..and Google via God spews out Ted Dekker...the rush of the story..the linking of Spirit and ink and oh the story of Elohim's grace and power, loss and return, pain and healing.
A man will see and learn, will grow...More grace brother Dekker,to tell the story of Jesus with so much fire, clarity, intensity and power...I am buying any and everything you ever wrote Ted Dekker.God bless you.
I especially enjoyed the ending and how it became personal to every listener.
It was real with a large dose of hope.
Not sure. I enjoyed his telling of the story. He did a great job staying in character.
Every Man Is a Job
I have loved reading books by Ted Dekker. I did not find this one as well written as some of his other books. I thought his word choice and expressions were a bit cheesy at times and some of the drama was a bit drawn out and not necessary for the story line.
Riches are meaningless.
The thoughts that went through Kent's mind when he had to hot-wire a truck and pick up a corpse.
Kent! I enjoyed the transparencies about his thoughts regarding people, co-workers and family. Great book!
I couldn't put this book down; I started it immediately after I woke each morning! The humanity and biblical similarities were thought provoking!
I highly recommend this book! This needs to be a movie!!!!!
Thoroughly enjoyed this book including the performace of the reader.
Ted Dekker weaves a great story and I am looking forward to the second in this triolgy
I loved the comparison to Job, the long suffering faithful man. The idea that even the most unrighteous of men can receive redemption is a wonderful moral to the story.
I can't wait to read the next one!
Changed my thoughts on this book since I've realized it's part one of a trilogy; story = 4 stars.Wish Audible made this clear on their site.
Maybe, but I'm not usually driven to listen to a past read. I am going to complete the trilogy.
No it wasn't, but I did make it a priority.
I loved the journey of Kent Anthony's growth but it was his Mother-In-law's faith that moved me the most.
I did manage to get to the end - I kept hoping the bad streak in the main character would win through - but I certainly won't be getting any more of this series, or even of this author. I also had the idea this was a crime novel and I don't know why!
This is utter rubbish. A totally implausible story that meanders around unbelievable characters and a ridiculous theme. I am guessing it is supposed to be a modern day version of Job, but only really succeeds in creating a confused and unbelievable story. What a waste of money! My advice - pass it by!
I listened for a whole 5 hours and just couldn't keep on. For some reason I thought it was a crime novel but in fact it's some kind of religious experience tale. Not to my taste. The writing was full of clichées and the rythm too slow as well. Hope somebody else enjoys this...
