Publisher's Summary

Every married couple knows you don't go to bed angry. The corollary, Cork O'Connor realizes, is that you also don't say goodbye when you're mad. When the charter plane Jo O'Connor is on crashes over the mountains in Wyoming in an early winter storm, Cork deeply regrets the heated argument he had with his wife just before she left. An intense search is launched, but bad weather and the steep terrain hinder the efforts and soon the search is abandoned.

Several months later, still grieving, Cork is contacted by the wife of the man who owned and flew the charter plane. An unlawful death suit has been filed against the pilot's estate alleging that he had been drinking the night before the flight disappeared and his ability to fly the plane was impaired. But credible evidence suggests he was not flying the plane that crashed. And if he didn't fly the plane into the storm, then who did?

Soon, Cork is pulled deep into a dangerous web of corruption that takes him to the rugged, isolated outback of Wyoming and forces him into deadly confrontations with law officers on the take and murderous drug lords who create "safe havens" on Indian lands along the porous borders of the United States. But in the midst of the danger and deception lies the possibility that Jo's disappearance was not the end of her, that somewhere along the labyrinthine path of his search, maybe even in the broad shadow of Heaven's Keep itself, Cork will find her alive and waiting for him.

    "A different "Iron Lake" mystery"

"Heavens Keep" takes place in Wyoming..home of Walt Longmire..what an opportunity for 2 great authors to get together with two of my favorite characters..Walt and Cork O'Connor. Maybe then the name of the mountain range that Cork wanders thru searching for Jo would have been pronounced correctly. As it was, the mispronunciation was consistent but grating.

New to the series in his second book is Narrator Buck Schimer. Since his voice is quite similar to David Chandler, there isn't a glaring difference, though Schimers "Henry" is very different.

I enjoyed this episode very much. It was so totally different from the previous novels and this added a diversion that needed to come..plus a dramatic change of characters and addition of a couple of new characters.

Finally, I have very much appreciated the maturing of O'Connors youngest child in Kreugers writing. Kids don't stay the same, yet so often authors 'insert cute 6 year old here' for some family and never let the kid grow up..or we meet the child only as a grown up, with decades of back story we'll never know as readers. Kreuger either is or will be a great dad some day if he treats his own kids the same way as Cork and Stephen interact.

This entire series is well worth your credits!

    "Exciting!"

Wow! This listening experience grabs you fast and holds you hard! The whole Cork O'Connor series is great to read or listen to, but this one is particularly suspenseful and heartbreaking.
Just be careful if you're driving. You'll want to make the trip longer and longer because you just can't bear to stop yet!

"Great O'Connor Episode with one star reservation."

My problem is not with WKK here unless he was involved with the recording production. I have listened to all but 3 of WKK's books now. The ones on here, at least. I love all of them. I even like all the readers and I don't even think my complaint is with Buck Schirner here. He does a great job...but I also liked all the Craig Johnson series of Walt Longmire novels and I am VERY accustomed to George (Gold Standard Narrator) Guidall talking about Ab sir ROH ka County and in this book there must have been 200 instances of Ab sarra kuh mountains. Even if there is a chance this version was right I did all the other Longmire books first. It was worse than a movie with a bunch of "Call 555 3495"s in it. If this is my only complaint then it means I am very happy with it and when a picky person is happy you should have no hesitation about buying. I am sad that I only have 3 more WKK books before I have to put him on my list of "Waiting for him to write another book" authors.
Jo was a good character but I understand why she had to be retired.

    "unexpected and repeated religious themes"

I would have given this a higher rating--good character development, interesting and different storyline, but unexpected and repeated religious themes and lessons are annoying when you are not interested in them. I think that audible books with a religious theme should have to indicate this somewhere. That said, the narrator was quite excellent.

    "Narrator Murders Mystery"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

In print only. The audible version is awful.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Heaven's Keep?

    You're kidding, right?

Would you be willing to try another one of Buck Schirner’s performances?

    NO!!!

Do you think Heaven's Keep needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I love the Cork O'Connor series, but I'm going to skip all the books narrated by Buck Schirner. Maybe I'll try reading the print versions, but I have to get this voice out of my head first.

    Any additional comments?

I bought this book months ago. The narrator of the previous books had been replaced by Buck Schirner, who I found to be the most annoying narrator I've heard so far. His male voices are just barely okay, and his females all sound like Jonathan Winters doing "Maudie Frickett" - the granny in the long black dress and white wig.

I put the book away, thinking I'd like it better if I waited a while. I picked it up again this weekend, starting from the beginning again, and though I stuck with it for several chapters, it was even worse than the first time.

If Buck Schirner continues to narrate, I'd suggest that he forego character voices and just read the book. It would be infinitely better.

You just cannot kill off major characters and change the scope of all the books to come with out a vote of your faithful readers. I certainly vote no for this book.

"Enjoy the storyline but not my favourite narrator"

True to form novel from Kent Krueger.
Some unexpected turns which kept my interest going till the end. Not my favourite narrator as earlier books have different guy.

    "Good story keeps you listening!"

Only slightly disappointed in logic failures and situational awareness from an experienced lawman. Still a fan! Looking for the next book!
