Two people, two tragedies, two deep, devastating secrets....
Griff Montgomery is the headline-making, heart-breaking star quarterback of the Kings - a six-foot-four-inch, 33-year-old womanizer. Lauren Farraday is a beautiful young interior designer, bitterly scarred by divorce, whose life is falling apart. Though they violently oppose one another in court over her beloved pug (she thinks he's arrogant and conceited, and he thinks she's a bitch on wheels), something happens....
These are the bare bones of this sizzling romance, riddled with passion - the first in a brand new series that'll tantalize football fans and have listeners glued to every word and on the edge of their seats!
Griff looks like a super hero with his tousled, mahogany hair, dazzling smile, dark, sexy eyes, and a body that does something indescribable to a tight pair of jeans. Though Lauren's sworn off men forever, one look sends shivers down her spine, making her feel lonelier than ever before. Her lustrous, long hair, sparkling green eyes, and nonstop curves make his fingers tingle at the thought of touching her. How do they deal with their cataclysmic attraction? Will they be able to drop their protective facades - his to camouflage his grief over his sister and her family, for whom he was a surrogate father, moving 3000 miles away.... And hers' to shield her from the incalculable loss of her husband and hoped for child?
For Griff, the thought of falling in love is as foreign as toe shoes and a tutu. For Lauren, it's like putting on cleats and a helmet and running 50 yards.... Can they, will they, risk it?

Yes but....might be too embarrassed to say why
Just about everything. Great characters, twists and turns galore and "tasteful but hot" romance.
Very nice job, especially with the dialogue.
Took only three days. Two commuting and finished at home. Couldn't wait for next week's commute.
My husband and I commute to work together every day. It takes about 90 minutes round trip. Our tastes in music differ, so we decided to start listening to audio books during the commute. Same problem, though…different tastes…He likes sports. I like Romance.
We compromised with The New York Times on audio and a few mysteries until I came across this book and saw it had both Football and Romance and convinced him to give it a try. Bottom line, we both loved it as a story and for its “extended benefits”.
To explain…. About half-way through the book there was the first “bedroom” scene.” It was very well done but pretty explicit. You should have seen my husband’s jaw practically hit the floor of the car. He actually pulled over, turned to me and said, “Are you comfortable with this?” My response was ( with a grin ) “Sure, if you are.” The smile that spread across his face was something to behold. And when we got home from work, well let’s just say we were both eager to have our own little “explicit scene.”
So, this book was a great story for both of us during our commute and had “benefits” I never would have expected! We ended up finishing the book at home instead of waiting for next week’s commute. First time that’s happened. We are both looking forward to the next one in the series. For now ( sigh ) back to the New York Times.
The best so far. Couldn't stop listening and was kind of happy at the resolution of the plot yet sad when it was over.
Griff and Lauren. Both had "layers" of personality not just cardboard characters like so many romance novels. Oh...and the dog, Spike, that brought them together was adorable.
Can't say...would be a "spoiler" One caution, though. The language was what you would expect to hear from from a male sports team. And, without giving too much away, the intimate scene were very realistic. They described in loving detail what lovers do to please each other. Erotic certainly but far from porn. In fact, I thought they were both beautiful and hot! However, prudish types might be uncomfortable with this kind of thing. Their loss.
Came close...took two days. Normally takes me five or six for a book this size.
Narrator was excellent. Really made the characters come alive. My only disappointment...the next book in the series is not in audio yet but a blurb at the end of the book said it would be coming soon. Can't wait!
I love to read any genre and most topics. I like diversity and engaging characters. I write, garden, cook, craft and chill with my furbabies
How does a pug bring together a sexy interior designer and a hot professional football player?
Griff is having his house remodeled so he decides to rent while it is in progress. He finds a pug that looks lost and hungry. He takes him in names him Spike and falls in love.
Lauren is going through a very nasty divorce. She has to go off to take care of business with her ailing father. When Lauren returns, the house is empty. She calls the doggy daycare where her ex-was supposed to take Zander and finds he never arrived.
Long story short one day Lauren hears a dog bark and recognizes is, a battle ensues turning into a custody arrangement. Getting kicked out of his rental, he shows up at Laurens to rent from her and make their custody with Spike easier.
You're not a football fan, so you skipped across this title even though the cover is hot? Well go back and grab it! I'm not a big sports fanatic, but this story is more about Griff the man, than the game. Yes, there is a bit of the sport, but not much and it moves the story on. I really liked the love/ hate relationship between these two.
Another thing I like is that Lauren loves to cook, and we get a lot of description of he delicious meals. I could see and smell them!
Now for the sex... WOW! The fireworks between these two are better than any fourth of July!
If you like football, sexy quarterbacks, interior design, yummy food, cute pugs and hot sex, this is the book for you. And it's just the start... there is more sexy football hotness to come!
I received a copy for an honest review
An amazing sports romance you will want to listen to without hitting the pause button. A wonderfully written story about a football player's trials and tribulations in trying to win love without a playbook. It is witty, fun and will tug at your heart. The narration is smooth and engaging. Definitely the best audio book I have listened to. The characters are complex and vivid. The plot is well written. It's the type of book you'll remember long after you listen to it.
The reader had a voice that was smooth and maybe it enjoyable to listen to.
I liked the way Griff tried to convince them that Lauren was only his landlady.
He had a smooth voice that was enjoyable to listen to.
I would like to take Griff out to dinner. He would be interesting to listen to his reasons why Lauren wasn't his girl friend. It would be fun watching him squirm and then realize she was more than that.
I would have liked to have been able to listen to it all at once, but couldn't find the time to do it. It was something to look forward to and I did enjoy it.
This was my first time doing an audio book and I must say it was different and interesting. It seems like the characters rose off the pages and brought the book alive.......Nice job
I definitely recommend this title. Griff and Lauren meet under unusual circumstances. He is not a one woman man and she has been hurt by actions of her recent past. After they are through butting heads and slinging one liners at each other, things begin to change. Can Spike, who started out as Xander, help them see what they have and what could be? Can Lauren tame Griff? Can Griff help Lauren begin to heal? Even if you are an avid romance reader and already know the answer, you can partake in the entertainment and the hurt that get them there. I felt these characters were well developed and I rooted for them.
I am not a sports fan at all, but found the sports entertaining to the story and found myself no minding it at all.I felt it actually added to the story and the development of the charecters.
I love when "puppy love" is used in all aspects of a story. Animals really can be healing, especially dogs. Dog and human relationships can go deep.
I normally don't have much time to listen, but found myself listening in the car, cleaning became less agonizing, work flew by and at times I even used it to drown out my 19, 16, and 13 year old boys. Thanks Jean!
So in closing if you like fun love stories, Alpha type men (or Quarterbacks), women who need healing in a healthy way, and of course a wonderful Romance to tie it all together with a nice red bow. This book is for you. I , myself, can't wait to start book 2. I would definitely recommend this author to friends, and I think it is understood that I will be reading/Listening to more!
Not really...do want to listen to the next in the series, through.
Griff, of course. A sensitive hunk...rare indeed.
Good reading.Especially good with all the voices. Always knew who was talking.
Have to agree with the reviewer who said this was a "couples book." My hubby and I listened together on a long road trip. Hot time in the motel that night. :)
I am a 39 year old woman from the midwest. I love to read Romance and mystery. I like to scrapbook, play the gutar, Crochet, and sing
I loved listening to the same book that I read. Jean always does a fantastic job
