but bad, but not the best.

there where a few that were super good. most were alright. and a lot that were just plain weird. more spiritualists than ghost stories

good source of older horror storys

Of this collection several are vary well written and can stir ones self quite well, a few are less so but still enjoyed. all were well preformed , and it is worth sitting down to. yet I feel there could have been more impacting stories added for a more well rounded experience

Short story collection

Enjoyed listening to this collection of stories, some from authors I've read and some, not. Very nice renditions of these stories!

Some stories are great others not so much.

The stories in this collection are all quite different in nature. As a consequence, some will appeal more than others depending on one's taste. Whilst I would have given 4-5 stars to the stories by Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, Arthur Conan Doyle and Edgar Allan Poe, some of the others I found quite boring and unengaging, hence an overall score of 3. The narrators all do a great job.

Scary Stories from the Classic

Most of the stories were engaging and great to listen to. Some were not so much scary and focused on too much detail instead of actual story. A few grabbed my attention that were focused on the afterlife or deam-like state. Overall, a good one to listen to especially if you are trying to find ideas of what to write about or to get inspiration from.

A really nice mix of gothic and ghosts

Would you consider the audio edition of Great Classic Ghost Stories to be better than the print version?

I'm fairly certain that I enjoyed this more as an audiobook than I would have as a print experience.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Great Classic Ghost Stories?

This is hard to answer without ruining the suspense for other listeners. Sufficeth to say, I really enjoyed an elderly aunt drafting her nephew to escort her to a reputedly-haunted house.

What does John Lee and Bronson Pinchot bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

They both imbue the tales with tremendous atmosphere. Even though the stories are in prose considered elevated by contemporary standards the narrators give a radio play sense of dynamism.

While on topic of narrators, it bears mentioning that the woman (Jennifer James-Something) also does a very fine job. Instead of "various narrators" the cover art for this volume should list the cast. I didn't know what great talent was on board until I started to listen.

Who was the most memorable character of Great Classic Ghost Stories and why?

Again, I don't want to produce spoilers. I will remember George and his dreams, though.

Any additional comments?

It's a bit misleading to title this a volume of ghost stories. There are ghosts but also gothic tales and a bit of fantasia, or modern fairy tale, as well. Had I known that I might have bought it sooner.

very good

fantastic narration from beginning to end. I find Willa Cather to be a bit tedious but nonetheless every story is worth listening to and most of them are excellent. I'm downgrading the book overall by one star because there is zero diversity among the authors (unless you want to count one white woman as diversity). there are so many wonderful stories written by other kinds of people and it's always a drag when and otherwise fine collection seems oblivious to this fact.

Spirit

The stories were very detailed but they were a bit long winded and not very scary

Disappointing

Some of the stories were okay, but none were good enough for me to later remember and the rest were boring. Some didn’t even make sense.

The narrators took some getting used to and even then I didn’t care for this one American (Canadian?) man. I had to skip the female narrator altogether because her voice grated on my nerves. She was so slow and bland, I couldn’t stand it.
