Publisher's summary

Cannie Shapiro never wanted to be famous. The smart, sharp, plus-sized pop culture reporter was perfectly content writing about other people's lives on the pages of the Philadelphia Examiner. But the day she opens up a national women's magazine to find out that her ex-boyfriend has been chronicling their ex-sex life is the day her life changes forever.

Loving a larger woman is an act of courage in our world, Bruce has written. And Cannie - who never knew that Bruce saw her as a larger woman or thought that loving her was act of courage - is plunged into misery, and into the most amazing year of her life.

Radiant with wit, bursting with surprises, and written with bite and bittersweet humor, Jennifer Weiner reaches beyond Cannie's story and into the heart of every woman. Gut-level real and laugh-out-loud funny, Good in Bed celebrates the courage of the human spirit and features an unbelievably funny cast of supporting characters, the strangest dog you'll ever encounter, and a heroine you'll never forget.

Enjoyed listening

Narrator was slightly nasal but the listen was bearable. The story was good and I think many of today's contemporary women could relate to the character.

misleading title

It stared off as chick lit but halfway through it got only saddening. Definitely not what I expect when buying a book in that category.

Lukewarm

I tend to not be overly drawn to "chick lit" reads in general but I thought this might be campy and slightly interesting. I wasn't disappointed but felt frequently aggravated with the attitude struck by the protagonist. I found her inner pathos and method of lashing out frustrating and found her less sympathetic as a result. The story wasn't bad though, and kept me entertained long enough to get through it. Certain parts were genuinely moving, and these were much stronger than the rest of the story.

Smart woman tearfully makes pathetic choices

This book was very much not my cup of tea. It's a self-indulgent tale of a fat woman who dumps a guy and then spends the majority of the book tearfully (and pathetically) trying to get the guy back. I found myself just cringing with embarrassment for women everywhere as I listened. At least it has a happy ending.

Not very well abridged

I started reading this in softcover and then got the audiobook to try and finish it in time for my book club discussion. The "real" book was much more charming, humorous, and entertaining. When I skipped around, listening to parts I had already read to find my place, some of the parts I enjoyed were so diluted that I almost didn't recognize them. Skip audio unless you can get an unabridged version.

Needs a Different Title

The story was ok even if a little hoaky - but just didn't go along with the title or what I felt the book would be about (yes, I was expecting something much more with a title like this). Not very plausible either - the whole story. Sorry.

A big disappointment

This is the first abridged book I have purchased and I found it a waste of money. It was confusing and the only thing that made me finish it was that the narrator was great and that I have to read this before I can read "Certain Girls", which is unabridged. I wish that I could have read the unabridged version of this book but it's unavailable.

I Don't Get It

I truly can't understand the positive reviews of this book. I did not like Paula Cale's voice at all...very nasal and flat. I could not find one good quality about the main character. Have a good listen to the preview before buying. Also, this is not a female heroine to chubby girls...she is rather pathetic as she pines for a dope smoking guy who is so not into her.

Not a light hearted read

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I was looking for a light chic-flick type book to read and this one just had a very dark undertone with the main character almost loosing her baby and depression, etc.

Has Good in Bed turned you off from other books in this genre?

No. But I won't be reading anything else from this author.

Have you listened to any of Paula Cale’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No. THe voice was fine. No complaints.

What character would you cut from Good in Bed?

None. I just wasn't looking for such a serious story.
